Just a heads up for any UK readers. I've just found out that the UK model doesn't have the charcoal canister or solenoid valve.

Yeah, you wouldn't be required to have a bunch of useless junk strapped to your bike, dirty commie. Here in the land of the free we have all sorts of pointless regulations and restrictions about what we can do to our bikes. You wouldn't understand because you're not free like us!

I'm curious now though, did yours come with the silly seatbelt strap?

I'm a little confused here and am hoping someone can help. There are 2 lines coming out of the top of the fuel tank. Per the manual, one is called the "breather hose" and it is (was in my case) clipped onto the back of the air box. The other is called the "fuel tank charge hose" and is (was in my case) connected to the solenoid on the charcoal canister. I get the need to provide a way for fuel to escape when you overfill a tank, the need to let air in as you suck fuel out and the need to relieve pressure as the fuel gets heated. But why two lines and what functions does each provide? The reason I'm asking is I want to know what's best to do with these lines if you remove the charcoal canister and solenoid. Thanks.

I just removed all the lines and the sensor. The one coming from the gas tank, remove it and get a dirt bike breather for it. Just plug the one on the throttle body with a rubber cap( got mine i think at Home Depot)
You can remove all the line feed that come from the canister that run to the back of the bike. Had mine off for 600miles-ish no issues.

Thanks. I understand that that is an option that seems to work, but I'd like to understand why it works. The dirt bike vent hose pipe allows air in and keeps fuel/fumes in. Is there a check valve of the stock breather hose that only allows vapor out? If not, why are there 2 separate lines on top?

Would someone help here, please?

There are 2 lines coming out of the top of the fuel tank. Per the manual, one is called the "breather hose" and it is (was in my case) clipped onto the back of the air box and vented to the atmosphere. The other is called the "fuel tank charge hose" and is (was in my case) connected to the solenoid on the charcoal canister. I get the need to provide a way for fuel to escape when you overfill a tank, the need to let air in as you suck fuel out or the fuel cools and the need to relieve pressure as the fuel gets heated. But why two lines and what functions does each provide? The reason I'm asking is I want to know what's best to do with these lines if you remove the charcoal canister and solenoid.

Some people have put a dirt bike vent hose pipe on the fuel tank charge hose (previously connected to the charcoal filter) but I'm not sure that is a good solution. As I understand it, the dirt bike vent hose pipe is designed to let air in while preventing fuel vapor from escaping the tank. The fuel tank charge hose originally let vapors out of the tank so it seems like this mod would not work.

They really don't know why ... they just know it shaves a little weight off the bike. The line to the air box allows clean air to enter the tank through a one-way valve as the fuel goes down. The other line allows expansion, letting excess fuel-laden air out of the tank through a one-way valve and capturing that fuel vapor from the air before it vents to the atmosphere. It makes the EPA happy; doesn't help the bike at all.

It's strictly for emissions requirements, specifically to make it 50 state compatible. CA requires those ash cans on everything and has for years. It doesn't hurt performance, but weighs maybe a pound or two and takes up a fair bit of space.

The "sensor" is actually just a solenoid valve. It opens when the engine is running and shuts when it's off- why it doesn't trip the check engine light when you remove it. So the can filters vapors when the motor is off, and allows the engine to draw in and burn stored vapors when it starts.

The stock fuel cap has a check valve- lets air in, but not out. Any expansion goes out the tank vent port to the charcoal can. I would probably re-run the vent line back out to the stock location after the can is removed. If the bike tips over, or you overfill the tank and then park it in the sun, it won't dribble gas out to leak down all over the engine and route it out onto the ground.
not a sensor he is right

evap purge control solenoid

do not cap the manifold line my throttle dropped after doin so and my bike stalled out

everything is open in the running state not closed
