I hadn't even thought about a stand but now that you mention it, a rear stand would make for a nice little welding project for me.

 

might have to go with a shittier more universal stand like the crappy cycle gear ones that have a VERY adjustable width and just push them both full inwards and hope.

 

^ this will probably have to happen ... I have spare track stands laying around and I might have to weld up a longer arm but stands hadn't even crossed my mind. I'd want to put spools on there too, just tap the swingarm maybe, it's not like it's a ton of weight resting on them.

 

One of the H2C accessory pics had a stand listed for the Grom. I'll see if I can find it.

I have the universal pitbull that can do spools or cup the swingarm. I'm prolly gonna make an attachment similar to the original but extended so it'll fit the grom... ?

 

Welding my own is still going to be my first choice. Not that it will be better than store bought, just more fun to make.

I use the welder quite a bit. Really glad I bought it between building a Suzuki Samurai and Jeep TJ and now my VW Bug. I always wanted a bender but in the end, really have not needed it. I purchased a pre-bend kit for me jeep and welded it myself. I havn't needed bent tubes for anything else.

 

This was my Samurai, I love the Sammys.

TIG is great but I still have a ways to go before I am really good with the MIG. Maybe some day I will look into a TIG but by then I will probably be done modifying vehicles.

Does anyone know the mm. size screws for the swingarm spools, and what size pin for the front triple tree stand? Are Hondas standardized for these two items? I think you will need stands to adjust the chain and to remove wheels to change tires. With that exhaust pipe under the bike, not sure I could fit a center jack under there in the center either.

Looking at the photos on Hondas Website, the swingarm is not tapped for spools.

Maybe someone will make an adapter similar to this one made for the NC700X?

 

Im probably just going to get one of these BikeTeck stands if I don't weld my own. These do not need a spool.

Thanks My Zero doesn't have holes for spools either, but there is a large flat area that a center stand fits easily. Maybe I can fit my center scissor jack under it. Then there is no need for front or rear stands.

 

The exhaust pipe sure looks like it would get in the way of that. I guess you could build a setup with a cutout to clear the pipe.

 

Honda dealers will just use swingarm stands for the rear and triple tree stands for the front most likely. The more I look, there doesn't appear to be a good flat surface to put a center stand even if you get around the exhaust.

 

I'm new to bikes so I'm relying on you guys to find the simplest stand, then I'll just get myself one. Assuming this would be used for storing for long periods of time or working on the bike.. what else?

 

Checking steering bearings (front stand), removing wheels to change tires, adjusting the chain (rear only). Many people use the rear stand to oil the chain. Not me. Too dangerous. I just move the bike a couple of times, support it on the side stand and get down on my hands and knees. I see I can buy a swingarm kit for $13 which consists of 2 swingarm rests to replace the attachment that are used for spools. Now if I could only find the pin size for the front. Looks like Honda uses several sizes. Anyone know the front stand pin size for the Grom?

 

I ordered a swingarm lift kit from mjmotogear. It was $11.70, so I can just use those on my rear stand. Problem solved. I already have a 13mm pin and it looks like Honda mostly uses that size, and the couple of photos I've seen of the Honda Triple Tree hole looks about 13 mm.

 

The swing arm rests I bought for the rear stand work just fine for the Grom, but I cannot get my mj moto cheap Chinese Triple Tree front stand to clear the light and horn. I wanted to lift the front to check the steering head bearing, but now I'll just wait until someone else finds something that works. I do not see any place for a motorcycle jack or center stand to rest under the bike either. Has anyone lifted the front end yet, and if so, how?

 

Why go through the hell of making your own?? Here is one I bought from harbor freight $40 and it's aluminum. No mods to the rear bolts of the bike either.

Yes, but isn't the stand in the way of the wheel if you want to remove it? That's about the only time I raise the back...to change a tire.

 

I'm using a pitbull stand. I have two..one for my superduke and the other for the grom.

 

Raising the back is no problem with lots of choices. How about the front? Has anybody raised the front yet?

 

Please don't consider wasting your money on the rear stand stopper kit from yoshimura ( it requires you drilling holes in your swing arm ). If I had not mounted them I would have sent that shit right back to yosh...just got to chock it up to a loss. Easy come easy go.....just like my ruck...
