Installed the cam and it was a breeze. Don't have to drain oil or remove airbox.

It made it a lot EZ to remove both the intake and exhaust valve adj rocker/arm

Using the two mounting bolts for the de-compressor made the install EZ.

After installing the cam I adjusted the valve lash for both the intake and Exhaust to .003.
Starting up the grom it idled a lot smoother and the RPM's running at 1350.

I did not change any mapping or made any A/F adjustment and rode around my neighborhood with out going out into the Public street and the grom seems run a lot smoother and seems like the exhaust note has a lower rumble. I find out the performance when I go to the gym in about a hour from now.

Oh side note those Takegawa valve cover allen bolts like to spin them selves off when you are riding, I notice one of the allen bolt was missing so Blue Locite is your friend for the valve cover bolt or even the see thru cam cover allen bolts.

 

thats too tight. set them to .004" intake and .006" exhaust. i know you prob wont listen, but still. I hope.

 

Looking at the Japan website, .002-.003 is recommended, the new cam came with instruction in Japanese.

 

Ok so I went to the gym and did my high speed testing esp in 4th and 5th gear which is where I was having issues. Yes this cam fixed the problem cruzing from the stop light I open it up and 1st,2sd,3rd was the same as the old cam "10/10D" but in 4th gear 65mph came up really fast and shifting into 5th gear the grom did not lose power but kept pulling.

Is this product worth buying, hell yes, I already ordered a second 15/15D cam for my second grom.

This product was tested on my Red/White Tak-181-4v grom that has a Aracer mini-2+ with the autotune, Koso 34mm throttle body with the 30mm inlet tube port matched to the Tak head, HR-10 hole F/I, I also port match the exhaust port to the Finbro 183-2v full exhaust system. The airbox is my own FYI design and I'm using Takegawa oil catch can for CCV pressure and oil spray. The engine has over 2500 break in miles. The engine has a Koso cam chain tensioner unit with the Kitaco clutch side cover and my DIY oil cooler system that I bought from ebay using Takegawa exhaust valve cover mounting bracket.

The temp on the oil was around 160-170 F, the head temp was 230F and the cylinder was 220F.

This grom is using the same map as when I had the 10/10D cam so I believe if I put this grom on a dyno and re-adjust the mapping and maybe the timing I think I can even go faster or get there faster.

thats crazy tight for valve clearance on an aircooled motor, but i stand corrected vs the instructions.

 

Seems like you'd have to check clearance really often to keep from burning a valve. Takegawa's valves are expensive, too.

 

Since I will be riding this grom to and from San Jose to San Francisco for Fleet week and Blue Angle air show, so I slowly doing small changes to the ECM and other hardware to see if I can squeeze out more HP or performance.

So today I went into the Aracer mini2+ and turned off autotune, turned on CL and adjusted the rev limiter to 11600. Went for a ride from the gym back home after the changes the grom performed a lot better than in AutoTune mode. My next change which I did was install a cleaned washed and oil BMC filter and washed the one that was on the airbox. So I will find out tomorrow if there is another change in performance with the newly washed air filter.

 

I think you're geared way to long, if you're still running the 140 tire and 16x32 sprockets, especially if you now have extra RPMs to play with.
Tried 16x33 with a 130 tire and went back to 16x34, I'm very happy about it, first gear (also using the 5 speeder) is less intergalactic, acceleration is better and top speed is the same.

 

Before the changes on the cam, the grom would come up in first gear no problem with my 215lb weight and now the newer cam it is more mellow in first gear and gets more aggressive as the RPM goes up which is what I really want.

 

Ok with the new 15/15D cam in my Takegawa 181-4v, I rode to San Francisco from San Jose via our famous EL Camino Real for Fleet week and Blue Angles flying over the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge.

The cam works flawlessly and now that the CL"Closed Loop" turned on,the Aracer mini2+ seems to have adjusted the lower RPM, this cam rips. I had Zero issues riding one way 40+miles in stop and go traffic and the gas mileage did not suffer that bad about 85+mpg.

The temps on the oil stayed around 176-200F depending how long you stayed at the stop light, the Head temp and cylinder temp hovered around 240-290F.

I surprised a couple of Harley riders when taking off at the light in SF and riding back to San Jose I ran into 3 super bikes in Santa Clara near Levi's stadium. I guess they thought it was a stock grom, when the light turned green I opened it up to see what kind of performance the new cam will do against the bigger bikes to my surprise I left the light faster than they did and by the time I was in 3rd two of them flew pass me to the next light and the 3rd guy pulled up to my grom and asked if I bored the grom out I lied and said that I only have loud pipes and that's it and I took off from the light and left them. I'm sure they're posting on their big bike forum that these groms with pipes really can fly.

Anyway Thanks Hard Racing I got my second 15/15D cam for my other grom, bad thing is that I have to tear down that grom engine since I think the Hy-bird ceramic bearings I installed for the transmission is making a lot of noise and also the transmission feels really like it is going to fall a part. This is the same transmission that was in the grom that locked up at 70mph and threw a rod thru the crank. Might have to put a whole new set of Transmission bearings likely OEM and just get a new Takegawa 5 speed transmission and replace the one that is in my grom and later on rebuild the so pose bad one with new parts.

That sportbike rider is going to be super pissed when he finds out the Grom he just bought is super slow.
