I have not posted my build here so I figured I would throw it out there for everyone to see, Ask questions and make fun of my purpleness :). I have learned a lot in the progress of my grom build and wasted a lot of money to the point where now I could build an engine blindfolded. I knew nothing about such stuff besides your basic knowledge of oil changes and chain maintenance. I purchased my grom new in May of 2017 and had zero plans of doing anything besides a cheap exhaust, fender eliminator and bars. My idea for my grom was to dick around, go off road and just have fun. Lemon Ice was the color. While at first, the color grew on me but I knew eventually it would become white as I find white anything from cars to motorcycles just look the best.

Then, the modding bug hit, Started with the Finbro setup which at first i thought was awesome. Looking back, if you want performance just simply avoid it. I then went to a DCR cam, Aracer Mini plus 2, and loved that setup. Quickly wanted more and jumped to a Koso 170 BBK, Finbro head, Hindle exhaust, supporting mods and loved that setup too but again, shortly after i wanted more. And 2 years later we arrive to what my grom currently is and its a monster. Below is the current setup and I am really happy with this setup, performance, sound although ear bleeding, and the look.

With all these mods, I originally had my stock clutch with 10,000 hard miles and it started slipping so i swapped in a friends used stock clutch with about 4,000 miles and it does not slip at all and handles perfectly. I plan on over winter doing the Sex Machines 6-disc clutch just because but I really think i can get away another season on a stock clutch.

I believe a bike should make you smile each and every time you ride it no matter how much or little money you throw at it. People assume I just threw tons and tons of money at a grom and its a waste but people do the same with civics and make them fun and fast. Its all about what you enjoy and I enjoy making my bike, big or small my own and different while at the same time making it do things it was not intended for. Almost all these parts i purchased 2nd hand, Sponsor type stuff or traded for. I have about half of what these parts cost originally into my build. Deals can be found if your patient enough.

Here are some pictures of my build. Any questions feel free to ask. (Click to make larger)

Nice Build Wicked! I think you and I both are missing a few final pieces, namely GF tappet covers and rev wedge!

Nice build, you are like me I don't care what anyone says about me and my groms. I had a lot of comments about why you are riding the little toy motorcycle or get a real bike.

Most people don't know I've owned and ridden bikes from Honda VLX 600 to GSXR-1100 to TL 1000r, Harleys, Indian scout, hayabusa and so on, but my favorite bike is my groms, due to the fact it is EZ to work on to drop the engine and cheap to mod and I can do it on my own.

I coming from the IT world of computers, software development, security network, and so on and I wanted to learn as much about how to build a motorcycle to achieve more HP and performance.

Yep that DrowSport 181-4v piston/cylinder kit is the bomb and so is the Koso 4V head esp if you let GF port and polish the head and port match the ports to your intake pipe and exhaust pipe.

If you are using the Koso 34mm throttle body and it's inlet tube ask GF if the inlet tube should be polished and ported out a little and also the throttle body. I did that on my setup and found it had a little more pep on the low end, I also polished the butterfly valve on the throttle body.

Good luck on your upgrades and Ride it like you stole it.

Ride safe.

I have owned a few big bikes. 2014 VFR800 being my last one which I sold as it has sat for 2 years since getting the grom. As for porting, Im not sure I plan on doing it, as my bike sits right now I am plenty happy with it. Maybe next winter I may send it out. This winter Im focusing on the plastics and looks. Looking to swap the 17s gray plastics with the 19s black plastics as well as add more carbon fiber and maybe swap to a OG headlight that i will retrofit with a LED oem protector. But who knows, this 4v build wasn't planned either so...haha

so what parts did you get second handed? (where did you look?)
which companies did you get sponsored with?
Facebook groups and here. Really my only new parts were the bbk and suspension. everything else was a grind to find but the deals are out there. As for "sponsors" its more of help me help you situations and sweet talking. have to sell yourself. Those companies will remain annoymous so they dont get flooded with stuff haha. I do my best to promote them when ever i can and every single chance i can. Good people.

sweet! I'd go carbon fiber wheels and full carbon fiber plastics lol
Carbon wheels scare me, i wouldn't stop thinking about a crater i just hit and the wheel could fall apart at 80mph haha.
