I decided to port and polish my new Grom head and was wondering what tools do I need to start my polishing and what polishing compound do I need. The Grom head came with no valves so it is just a plain case so it would make it EZ for my to start the polishing process. If someone has some pictures of what area to polish and stuff and hints of what to do it would be gladly be appreciated. If you have a video posted online some where or know of a website that shows hints and stuff on polishing a motorcycle heads posted it here.

Thanks all and ride safe

"port and polish" gets thrown around a lot, anytime somebody tinkers around. The reality is the "port" part of that equation is all about knowledge, testing, measurements, executed to achieve specific engine characteristics. The "polish" part, makes people feel like they've done something, but may or may not be productive, depending the application. For instance, transfer ports on 2 strokes actually atomize fuel charge better if not truly polished.

If you want to tinker, clean up any misaligning mating surfaces, but I'd advise against just randomly removing large amounts of material.

Of all the heads to play around with and try a porting job, the Grom head has to be a pretty good first candidate. Can't make the damn thing flow any worse!
I was told that the Exhaust port should be polished and the Intake port left alone because you want those little ebb's "metal imperfection to swirl the gas mixture around for a better mixture of fuel and air.
