so we all know that the bike is a hot seller and for what it is its a solid product that is if you live a large cramped city like NYC or LA or maybe even a busy coastal town where the speed limit is under 50mph. but with the bike not having the power to stay at freeway speeds on all road way conditions(inclines) and it looks like not all but good majority of grom owners going to or are thinking about going to a larger displacement motor like 150cc. i know that a few of the people doing the mods would do it anyways. their are people on the youtube comments that say just get the 250cbr instead of spending a $1000 so you can go on the freeways. i under stand their point but only if you need to use the freeway every day for work. but at the same time why should you need to spend more $$$$ on a bigger bike and more in fuel, seeing that the grom gets about 100miles per tank, so you can go on the freeway like once a week. i just dont entirely think that you should spend more on a bike to use the freeway but i also dont think that you should need to modify the bike so you can keep up with traffic either.

so i think it would be nice to have a grom from the factory that has a 5speed and a displacemnt between 150cc and 180cc!

what do you all think???????

I'd like more power but I still would not use it on the freeway.

Power wheelies around the hood...... Now that would be a different story v

The Grom is a Monkey Bike. Nothing more - nothing less.

Land vehicle Vehicle Motorcycle Motor vehicle Car

Don't pretend it's something that its not, then wish you got something else. If you want a scooter, then buy a scooter. If you want a small displacment freeway bike, then buy one of those. The Grom is a Monkey Bike and will do what Monkey Bike's do, with modern luxury.

It's more fun taking the side streets. That's the point. You don't get 9+ stoppies in before work on a freeway commute. I don't need to hit 70+ to be happy. I do want to be able to twist the throttle and have the bike try to rip itself out from underneath me on its way to 60 though.

If folks want highway cruising, they should buy a real bike. The Grom is a toy. A ridiculously awesome toy that you get to commute on, but still a toy.

Unless you're spec racing, 250/300's are... uuuh....

Does any one know if the transition with the pcx from 125 to 150 was planned or commonly known? Any chance of that happening with this? Honestly if I am planing on spending 500+/-$ On bbk it would just as rather give hoinda that 500$ now with what would have to be changed I still bet there is more profit with this priced at 3500 with the 150cc and 5 so then it at 3k.

I doubt the Grom/MSX will be a 150 from Honda any time soon. Maybe in five + years or so IF the competition comes out with a 150.

Mine is doing 70MPH now with all the mods as listed in my sig. I'm holding off on bore kits/fuel adjustment kits as they are not perfected yet. I will buy these kits at some point. It's so funny when you ride the grom with a beefy exhaust and come round a corner people are looking expecting a big bike and then you turn up on this little thing - always puts a smile on their and my face.

I like the grom because of its size. If I was going to get a cbr it sure as hell would not be a 250.Yes more cc would be awesome, but if the grom was a 150 we would want it to be a 180 if it were a 180 we would want a 2000.We are guys,,thats what guys want, thats what guys do.Same goes for anything with a motor. At least I know that me in a nut shell.Cant say I have ever said,,wow this thing is fast enough or too fast.lol

I'd be happy with it being a tad more powerful out of the box as our speedlimit here on the motorway is 70Mph. And at the moment it's still a struggle to maintain this speed

I wouldn't dream of taking the Grom on the interstate. That's not what it is for. It's a toy for whipping around neighborhoods and smiling your ass off while doing it. The displacement is perfect for what it is. There's enough room for tinkering to satisfy the gearhead in all of us. Everyone wants to tinker and wrench on their bike/car/boat. If you're a red-blooded American with a set of hairy balls and a sense of humor, the Grom is for you. I've got nothing to prove. I can laugh at myself. The Grom is a perfect toy for me. If I needed to commute on the interstate, a bigger bike would be in order. Unfortunately, the roads down here in Florida are filled with blue-haired grandmas that will run you over in their Cadillac without blinking or using a blinker. So, for commutes, my car is the way to go.

Don't try to make the Grom something it's not. It's insane to pour money into it to compete with a larger bike or fill a different role. It simply won't do it. However, it's also fun to pour money into a project if that's what you're into. I do it all the time with rifles. I don't need to go 70mph on the Grom to have fun. I have fun every time I take a tight corner at 25-30mph. I have fun taking a quick 20min ride at night after putting the baby to bed. It's a toy. Comma. A seriously fun toy. Period.

Also, I wouldn't think Honda is going to make any displacement changes anytime soon. In fact, we'll be lucky if they keep making the Grom. They're losing money on every single unit at this price point, so I am thinking this will be a limited run. Get it while you can and keep it in the garage for your grand kids to enjoy. It's a Honda, so it will be running for generations if you take care of it.

Or fuck it. You can do an Audi 1.8t engine swap.

As if 4th gear wasn't already close to useless, let's add another gear!

I don't think they are losing money. I have seen the invoice sheets showing what they cost the dealer and we are making money on them. I know for a fact Honda is making money on them. This is built in Thailand, not Japan.

That was the very first question I asked the dealer before buying the Grom. He said he didn't think so (that they would go to 150cc) because it was more like the old Honda 50s and 70s. I did buy a PCX the first year they were out, 2011. It also is 125cc's and the very next year they went to 150. But, I'm the only one I know with a white one. It wasn't offered in white the years since. It's fine with me...I love my scooter. It does the job and when I need to stash stuff, I leave the grom in the garage and take the scooter. When I want to ride a cool bike around town, I take the Grom. No question the grom is cooler than the PCX!
