So I've been in talks with a dealership in Mississippi who can sell me a Grom at a normal (non Cali mark up) price.
I'm willing to have it shipped to California but I assume it is a 49 state bike.

Anyone have an ideas or tips on how I can register the bike in Ca?

Oh really? how so... i'm sure the dealership wants to make the sale but they know my intentions and even mentioned they have a service to ship it.
Also said they could refer to another one that gives an instant quote etc.

Do yourself a favor, buy it wherever, but register it in North Dakota, not CA. The corrupt CA gvmt will over-tax and/or fine you every year simply for owning a gas burning vehical. They will then give that money to people who dont deserve it and not ever fix the shitty pot-hole-riddled roads.

In North Dakota there is a one-time reg for the life of the vehical.

Why worry about residency? Its a registered bike.

The insurance question is a valid one though.... If you are going to buy out of state, its worth doing some research before you are trapped by CA "laws".

Glad you chimed in on that. I did some research all morning and found out that Honda did NOT make a 49 state version and that they are all the same.
The dealership in Mississippi sent me the same picture so I think i'm good.... just have to pay the CA taxes during registration. BTW I am also asking them to provide a Manufactures Certificate of Origin which they say they can provide.
I heard that it will help me during the registration process somehow.

you need to call honda usa and get this clarified,

a few weeks ago i couldnt find a grom locally either, and started to look online, on ebay and cycletrader, and this is what i found,

ALOT of HONEST dealers are telling people up front that HONDA is forbidding the delivery of any new motorcycle, also HONDA are forcing the new owners to be physically present when he/she signs the documents to purchase a new Honda.

Alot of the ebay ads i saw, says they will not ship a new honda motorized vehicle due to honda policy so dont even ask, maybe this dealer hasnt gotten the memo yet.... ?

My father in law registers all of his vehicles in Florida even though he has lived in NC and NJ for the past 30 years.

If you have a California driver's license and a vehicle registered in another state, if you get pulled over they are going to give you the 3rd degree. Reg it in California, or just know what you're in for...

Once your purchase is done and it's here in ca take all your paperwork down to DMV don't go to aaa they can't do mso or mco they will give you a form to verify the vin at chp office , yes you have to make an appointment there too...I have all my paperwork now I'm heading to chp office to verify the vin, then go back to dmv and get your plates ..oh yea get proof of ins too hope this helps. Recent situation here too...

RayBo is spot on.
Also if you take the point of origin papers to the California DMV, you won't have a problem getting a pink slip. That is if it has not been registered in the USA previously. You will have to, like what was said, get checked (VN Numbers) the CHP office. I have been through this stuff in California in the past so Ray, send me a E-mail and I will give some more info. Some info here is not quite correct. :serious:

There are many califorinan residents are moving to hawaii (oahu) because of smog test on car and truck. Here we dont have smog test pipe. Just safety check once every years. Make sure all lights working and good tires.. that it..
