Hi all,

Decided to give the TYGA tail tidy an install attempt yesterday. After dropping one of the OEM bolts in the frame tube (crap), I encountered some other questions / issues:

  • The blinkers have a yellow and black wire each. The connector (female) part that's attached to the thicker black wire has a clear indicated yellow L and R female end. And two unmarked black ends, so I just put one in each of them. Is this the correct way to go?
  • Flasher relay: don't exacty see where and how to install this? Does this replace an exisiting relay?
  • Bolts to tighten the blinkers are oddly designed / placed IMO: you can hand tighten them, but no wrench size 13 I own fits in the carbon piece to REALLY tighten the bolts.. So those will probably come loose on the first few rides.
  • Biggest issue: my right blinker is not compatible with the OVER exhaust that's mounted on my Grom, so this happens:

Anyone experience similar problems? I loosened the exhaust bracket, the exhaust can be placed another 1,5 cm lower to clear the indicator. But once I tighten the bracket nut of course everything goes back to it's original place (too high -> hits the indicator).

Are there different 'lower' brackets available for the OVER exhaust? Would be a shame to have to ditch the TYGA tail tidy in order for something that is compatible (hotbodies perhaps?)..

All suggestions are welcome! :)

Wiring? *shrugs*
Flasher relay is in the headlight shroud.
Blinkers not fitting... That just how that tidy is. An option would be to go with an integrated brake light, or the hotbodies or something. I think tyga has spacers for their exhaust so it fits with their high mount mufflers, but idk. You might be able to find some spacers and longer bolts to make it work with the OVER exhaust.

Integrated taillight.
Yeah but no.

Reasons: not legal. I don't want to get pulled over and get a ticket. Plus: not as visible / safe as proper indicators.
I do a lot of city traffic so this is quite important for me.

Next to this, this would leave the Tyga with two holes in the side that would need to be plugged.
I bought this thing for it's sleek design, would seem like a shame to stuff two random plastic plugs in there to cover up the holes.

The Tyga top muffler is wayyy shorter and mounted lower down it seems than the OVER. See picture attached to show the difference.

Adjusting (lengthening) the existing OVER bracket would be an option, so it sits lower. I don't have the tools or knowhow for this, but can look around to see what this would cost.

Thanks for the tip about the flasher relay. Found a YouTube video and will try it out later tonight!

EDIT: I bought the Grom with LED indicators at the front. Does this mean the relay is already changed? Would save me some work..

Yeah, with LEDs up front, it should have been changed, I think. It shouldnt work without it. (someone confirm, i always had new flasher and rear LEDs).

As for the muffler spacing, maybe i was thinking of the yosh exhaust or something. Tyga does have different cans besides their Maggot though, too. There was a thread with a similar tail tidy and the signals melting as it was touching/close to the exhaust, so i wouldnt risk it as is.

Adjusting/new brackets/mounting can only do so much. Youre still limited on the fixed mount point from the exhaust header.

Thanks for your reply.

Attached the remaining wires and turned the key. Indicators work but are not blinking. Guess I'll have to install the flash relay anyway.

Bumped into another, slightly more annoying problem: the current OVER exhaust in combination with the Tyga tail tidy will NOT fit the European sized license plate. The exhaust just pokes out too far.

I contacted a friend who's more into working on and modifying motorcycles, he suggested opening up the muffler can and 'shortening' it by sawing off a few centimeters, and putting it back together using new rivets. Sounds like something way over my head haha.

I found an advert of a guy also from Belgium selling his MSX (Grom) also with an OVER exhaust and tail tidy. His installation is curious to say the least. A piece of alu with holes to fit the OEM indicators, but facing upwards -> see attachment.

Also: I attached all the wiring from the Tyga tail tidy, but one important light is NOT working: the license plate light :(

Anyone have an idea what could be causing this? Which wire supplies power to the license plate light?

Small update, managed to do some more work yesterday.

License plate light = easy fix. Only works when engine is running (oops).

Installed the other flasher relay so indicators blink.

Added some washers to the bolt that attaches the exhaust pot to the frame. Managed to push the exhaust outwards already a bit more, but need to find a longer bolt to add some more washers.
The license plate almost clears, but need an extra centimeter to also clear the plastic license plate holder.

Oh man, I wouldn't even think about cutting up that nice exhaust just to make a license plate fit. Can you simply mount the plate to the tail tidy a little to the left?

Interesting mount for the turn signals. Id even rotate them a little outward so they are more visible from the sides. But… hmm… the exhaust covers the right signal (at least in the guy selling it).
If its stupid and works, its not stupid.
