I would really like one of these if it was offered in a "Trail" version... kind of like the Trail 70 but with an extra 55 ccs and disc brakes!

I would be a bit scared of the present configuration due to its cast spoke wheels. They look nice for the street, but I wonder how they would hold up off road? Plus it would be nice to have it come with proper dirt tires that were rated up to or beyond the bike's top speed.

How are the gears suited for trails in the present configuration? Are they low enough for putzing around in 1st at walking speed up and down hills?

I could see my wife and I both on a couple of these enjoying the nearby national and states forests.

Any talk of a "trail" version coming out?

It's a big stretch to a trail bike....
Gearing...maybe but borderline.
Suspension...no way.
Wheels....no way

However if Honda made a dirt version...I would buy it also just for kicks or like Fletcher said, Dual Sport, for big grins.

Here is a video of myself and a friend going off road (I'm in the grom)

*sorry for the shaky video. We put the go pro on the rear fender of the drz which turns to out to shake more than a booty at a torque(twerk) contest*

If you go through the other videos you will find that I tackled a good sized hill on the grom without any problems, on street tires. Of course dirt tires would make a huge difference. Overall it's a blast since it's soo small you can pretty much toss it around and kick out the tail.

How is this anymore of a stretch than a trail 70 or 50? Some sprockets and tires, boom ur set. Way better than a trail 70 or 90, and those mini trails satisfy many.

A Grom would make an excellent mini dual sport. The EFI would be great in the mountains and I would not have to dick with the jets for the altitude.

Totally agree
Infact thats along the lines what i will do w mine depending on mass production.
I dont wanna trail ride this bike or butcher it, if they do not release them next yr or its limited again and then gets taken outa production.

I suspect some 50/50 tires, beefed up suspension, and a smaller front sprocket would make it OK for light trail duty. Cruising up a fire road or some easy forest trails. Or for the price of those mods, you could buy an old beater trail bike to go riding with and keep your grom pretty for the streets.
