The "What did you do to your Grom today?" thread

Just thought I'd start this as I've seen it on a couple of other forums and seems to be a popular/good idea.
If I've been a bit stupid and there is already a thread like this, feel free to delete.

Anyway, here goes, I'll start the ball rolling....

Today I moved the Horn and fitted my bar end mirror.

Removed horn mounting bracket, folded the other bracket to 90 degrees then re-assembled:

Horn nicely tucked away:

Removed the stock bar end weight, turned up a st/st spacer and fitted my cheap eBay bar end mirror:

I'm currently fabricating some blanking bolts/covers to go in the location of the stock mirrors. Didn't want to see empty threaded holes on the controls.
I'll post some photos tonight when they have been painted and installed.

I added a Nelson Rigg Enduro tail bag to the rear rack and added Bikemaster mirror extensions so I can actually see what's behind me. Love them both! Also got a chance to put a few more miles on the new ride. Up to 175mi now and just waiting for it to warm up in Vermont to really start racking em up.

Fitted a Pyramid rear mudguard extension. It now matched the front guard. The semi-matte colour is a perfect match. I like Pyramid products. I've been using them for years and they have always been good. I even get a discount!

Just got to wait 12 hours for the sticky pads to cure.

;)
I rode and rode on my day off. Odo went over 600 miles so I performed the 1st oil change. I should clean and lube the chain next week.

First day without any frost or rain so me and Black Betty went for a ride. Both Pyramid extender mudguards stayed on which is good. The hills where I live dictated 3rd or 4th gear for most of the time. Only get in fifth going down hill.

One mega advantage about the current extortionate fuel prices in the U.K. is, it is keeping lots of cars off the road. They are all staying at home and slowly dying in front of the t.v.

Stopped over at Aldi and bought a box of mixed size washers for peanuts. Love Aldi! Laughed at the big bikes parked next to my tiddler.

Looking forward to lots of long summer rides.

I added a garage door opener. I took the board out of the opener housing. Soldered another switch. Sealed the board in a ziplock bag, then covered with gaffer tape. I drilled one 1/4" hole in the headlight housing and installed the switch. I used a rubber "screw cover" to waterproof the push button switch. The hardest part was finding a spot inside the headlight housing that would not press on the original microswitch on the opener board. When I have to open it up to replace the battery, I'll put a drop of hot glue on the microswitch to prevent any inadvertent presses. Last pic shows in perspective, right behind turn signal.
I know some guys wire into the hi beam switch. That would be cool also. But I wanted to keep mine separate as I will be adding another driving light wired to switch on with the hi beam.

More screw covers. I covered the stock chain adjuster screws, the stock axle ends, and the mirror bolt holes. Those little rubber covers are great; easy to trim to the depth needed. On the mirrors, they are aluminum hex head bolt covers. The tricky part was getting the right size. They are labeled for the actual bolt size, not the size of the hex head. After a couple of tries I got them all covered, and have a good supply for more projects.

Then after posting the above, I realized this would look better/cleaner:
At least until I have to adjust the chain enough that the bolt becomes too long to fit inside this larger size cover.

Finished my suspension mods on my '22 Grom. Today I installed my YSS shock. I was shipped the shock for the Gen 2 Grom instead of the new Grom The dealer shipped the correct shock as soon as he was made aware of the mixup and it arrived yesterday. A couple of weeks ago I installed the brass swingarm bushings from MNNTHBX and also changed the fork oil to 20 wt. I added a turn of preload to the stock setting for the YSS shock. Took it for a test spin with a mixture of pavement and rough dirt roads. I am satisfied with the difference in handling and feel. Noticeably more composed in bumpy turns and just generally more comfortable. I'll likely keep it as is now and forego the expense of Ohlins shock and fork internals. I figure the 80/20 rule applied here - 80% improvement at 20% of the cost. Works for me as I'm the frugal type.

Nice work Derek. It’s the small detail that really matters instead of a bike looking like an advertising billboard with all the extras shouting “Hey Look At My New XYZ Exhaust” or whatever fancy branded part. 😸

Now I feel guilty LOL

Not to put too fine a point on it but speaking as someone that commutes everyday with a plain Jane black Grom and loves it, it's my "hey look at me advertising billboard with that fancy exhaust" Grom that will make my weekend adventures a bit more exciting 😘

Apologies if sharing a new "show off" bike dressed in theme put you off, surely it has its place here too 😇
Dav101 certainly don't feel guilty. If you saw my car, it has a nice array of stickers advertising all the shtuff I have put on it. But only on one side..... unfortunately the side a uniformed person would be talking to me from...but haven't had that situation in a long time. I track the car, so save my heroic driving for the track only.

There is room for all bikes here. It would get boring looking at bikes that all look the same.

Rumour has it that Honda are developing a ‘Stealth’ model.

I wish they would stop copying my ideas.

Meantime...I fitted the mirror extender on the left side but this was after searching for two hours for my 14 mm wrench. I found it eventually which was closer than where expected - in my back pocket!!!

Installed a Givi B37 top case today. Also did a test run loading the Grom on a hitch rack I picked up on craigslist recently. I added additional lights to the rack to ensure the bike didn't block my car lights. Getting ready to travel to the 2022 Smoky Mountain Small Bore Rally in a few weeks. The Givi B37 holds my helmet, summer jacket, gloves, patch kit and a few other items just fine. Made a couple of stops during my test drive with the bike on the carrier for safety and fit checks. No problems found.

Appreciate the support. I'm not really too put off but found the comments a little on the nose after sharing those pics. Great job on the integrated garage door opener. Very nice mod.

Agreed, thanks for the encouragement. I can't make as much time as I want running around on theses mini motos. Love looking for ideas here.
Some more pics then

Added some fancy cable holders. No real benefit I guess other than to feed the addiction :)
