I bought a 2014 Grom 5 days ago with 15 miles on it. They filled the tank up (I'm assuming with 93 octane?) Anyway, I live in Breckenridge, Colorado at 9,500ft. I did the manual altitude adjustment, but it seems like my bike is still struggling to get in the upper 40mph range on a straight. I got to around 55mph going down a mountain. I'm 130lbs... I keep reading these threads about "top speed of 60mph +" Is there a break in period, or should I be worried? I haven't looked recently, but there isn't more than 30 miles on the bike.

Thanks!

In another thread you said there are 3 of you in breckenridge, how do the other bikes run?
They literally JUST got them. My friend is on his way back from South Dakota where he picked it up. It was kind of ironic that we all got them at the same time, we weren't planning on it.

UPDATE: I changed the the altitude settings and did the airbox mod, already getting 53mph on a straight after a few more miles on it. I thought it was just a break-in period, but I have never bought a brand new street bike before (only dirt), so I wasn't sure how the engines broke in. Thanks for the replies! Next mod will be a full exhaust system, it sure needs it up here!

Dont start modifying the motor with less than 300 miles on it.
Put 3-500 miles on it ...change the oil. Stick with dino juice for the first 1000 miles then jump to synthetic. I like the shifting qualities from motul.
My advice is to stay bone stock till broken in.

After a couple hundred miles of break-in and an oil change, you should get another 5 mph. My bike got faster very quickly. You will probably be able to do 65 mph with a full tuck which will put you at redline. Make sure your chain is not too tight or loose and the air pressure is 30 psi or a little higher. Most of use unleaded regular.
