Looking for suggestions / advice on buying riding boots or shoes. My daily commute is downtown Chicago. Looking for good protection from a crash as well as the elements. I was looking at these : Dainese Technical Sneaker - RevZilla but not sure if a sneaker is ample protection. Relaxed urban style would be cool, but not at the risk of injury.

My husband has these. He likes them. They have protection for the ankle bone. And most of the shoe is a rubber coated fabric so it's mostly water resistant. Except the tongue is a mesh and would probably soak up water. He says they'd be good for summer. For riding in the rain he has goretex alpinestars mid height boots.

banks619 has some Cortech high top style riding shoes that he likes. I have the Icon 1000 Truant boots. I bought them because they are, in my opinion, one of the better looking boots out there that still provides a fair amount of protection. I like a boot that won't look out of place with jeans for when I am off the bike. I will say they require a bit of breaking in or thick socks. On one boot I get rubbing in the achillies area.

banks619 has some Cortech high top style riding shoes that he likes. I have the Icon 1000 Truant boots. I have the latigo air boots. They're rather low key looking, and pretty comfy for being motorcycle boots. They're a lot more comfy to walk in that my joe rocket orbit boots.
