Racefarm / Sushi Boyz GROM / MSX125 Build - "the Crab"

Ok well first off thanks for viewing, here we will post the latest news and information on our "Honda Grom / MSX125 Build" as well as information on some of the parts and manufacturers we encounter.

Well after 38 weeks our GROM finally arrived! We were #3 on the waiting list after putting our name down 2 days after it was announced. I guess like Honda we underestimated the US reaction.

Nothing special, here is our GROM with all the standard "poor mans" modifications aka "deletes". So we deleted the rear signal lights, as well as license plate holder. We also removed the front reflectors and any "junk" we could remove to get this to look semi-decent. Then with a few zip ties we made a ghetto license plate holder for the time being.

Next step was to start ordering some parts. Our primary focus at RaceFarm is dealing with JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) manufacturers and parts so that is what we will primarily focus our build on. So we contacted companies like G-Craft and Over Racing to name a few, both have solid names in the industry for decades and are the pinnacle for their related niches.

One of the first parts we received was the engine sliders made by OVER Racing. These are basically small rails that protect the engine and bike in case it is dropped etc. The are available in both machined aluminum finish or hard anodized (black).

A big part of why we love dealing with JDM products is just the insane attention to detail and precision that goes into the manufacturing. Below is a pic of the kit of bolts and spacers that come with something as simple as the engine sliders which are a beauty in themselves as well.

Next we ordered the GP TEN rims by OVER Racing. We were particularly impressed by this rim offering so we had to get them for our build. They are not just powder coated GOLD but actually have a metallic GOLD finish. These wheels are close to stock spec and are 12" in diameter and are 2.7" (F) and 3.5" (R) wide but are insanely light (2.75kg/3.3kg). OVER did a real good job with these wheels and they will add the sport bike look and feel we are after.

Again hats off to OVER Racing just look at how the wheels are packed, I haven't even seen this lip treatment done for car rims whether they be VOLK TE37V or Work Meisters SP1s! Kudos to OVER. They also come in a titanium and black finish as well.

Stay tuned, we have other parts like the OVER Racing 4 Step Assembly on our rack that we have to shoot and install as well as a G-Craft swing arm and adapters for Brembo brake conversion coming soon.

What's on deck, the OVER Racing Full Titanium Exhaust System (Up Version) featuring well you know full titanium header/piping and canister/muffler. Silly to say I sort of feel as if this pipe is already "played out" because in the So Cal area I have already seen it a few times on the limited amount of GROMs that are available. Also there are a lot of OVER Racing knock offs circulating in Asia so you have to be careful! Nonetheless this pipe is sick on weight alone its pretty impressive but again the craftsmanship and manufacturing is second to none. Just check out the TIG welding and how much time and effort went into manufacturing. To top it off OVER not only manufacturers these pipes for form but also function as dyno sheets are posted and there is a nice increase in top end power.

Finally installed! Can't say much more about it but pretty damn pleased, the header is a nice thickness and the mandrel bends and blue burning top it off. Sure the pipe costs bank but sure worth every penny.

Ok we got a little side tracked, we wanted to start test fitting our 5-piece fairing/cowl kit from K-WinS (of Thailand fame). We got these kits actually months ago from Japan just when they were hitting over there so we got lucky. I am pretty certain that we were the first to have these in the states and probably still to this day. K-WinS is a well known manufacturer of mini bike components in Thailand they made a big buzz at the 2013 Thailand/Bangkok Motorcycle Show with this guy:

So likewise it got us excited and destroyed anything that was out there even in Japan. Up till then all we saw were kits by Tyga and other South East Asia manufacturers. Sure these complete kits come at a hefty price tag which retails for ¥108000 (roughly $1100 USD) for the complete 5-piece kit but they are well crafted, take a look at some of the details. Probably not at JDM high quality kits made of FRP (like Vertex, Junction Produce, etc. but sure beats Origin, Version Select etc. in terms of quality and fitment) but nonetheless not bad. Nothing a proper prep and paint professional can handle.

Check out the stamping on the inner side of the K-WinS cowls, making sure they are legit and not knocked off (yet) ensuring your getting the real deal. Just like the real Japanese kit manufactures, I really appreciated the additional details like this they put into their work.

The little details like this grille seperate the many cowls you see out there and K-WinS, right when I saw this reminded me of some Vertex S-Chassis over fenders!

Just a basic shot of the undercowl from within showing the mounting bracket that secures directly to the motor for additional strength and rigidity. No zip ties here!

The semi-finished product, got the Front Fender (its a 2-piece fender but will probably remove the back piece *black* to mimic their race bike application) and Undercowl on 3 more pieces to go! Again in case you are wondering these are raw FRP so they still need to be painted we just test fitted to make sure no modifications would be needed and to make sure all the clearances were good. Next step - OVER Racing 4 Step install then the G-Craft swing arm!

Take care guys have a great weekend!

I really only wanted the rear tail section. I was talking with Eddie (ConElite) and he was saying you were waiting to release the kit after the debut at Super Sunday. :) At this point in time, I have a little hard of a time spending that much on a tail piece, but it definitely looks awesome and it lowers the riding position like what I am looking for. I decided to just go ahead and build a removable seat that is designed after a sport bike instead of a dirt bike. But eventually, I would like to purchase your piece.

No problem let me know. Yeah the jdm taste is not cheap the kits are really popular in Japan as they are so big they are making different variants and also come painted as well. But yeah Japanese flavor is a bit different than American in terms of the wallet. Hence you can get wheels here for your car for less than $500 and those same wheel dimensions from a Japanese manufacturer for $5k but it's all about what your into. Some get it some don't. But no sweat you know how to get a hold of me. The rear tail FYI comes with the seat the cowl and the led light so you get a lot all things considered.
