The Grom isn't my first bike but it is the first bike where I am bothering to learn more about it and how it operates to create more power so I did the free air box mod suggested by Dodge Rider, and ordered a Mnnthbx exhaust which sounds fantastic but didn't seem to make any difference in performance compared to when I did the air box mod.

My next step is eventually getting a big bore kit and fuel controller but after reading a few threads about people running lean on the same mods I did I was a little worried I would be running lean as well. Turns out I am, I've put about 100 miles on it which is plenty of time for the ecu to adjust but the spark plug is pearl white with one very light brown spot. Did I do damage to the engine? I only ever rode is 12 miles with a 50 mph top speed for about 2 minutes.

Next question, I ordered a EJK controller for the grom since after reading about all the different ones, the ejk will probably be the best option for how I plan to learn to tune it, plus it's setup for my mods anyways. Should I expect more power once I install this controller or is it entirely just for controlling fuel? How long should I ride it before I check to make sure it isn't running lean this time?

Im also curious about this EJK. Intake & Exhaust are my mods...

Forkseal; what are your tuning #'s and did you alter the figures that EJK provided?

That what I'm trying to figure out...I asked some questions on here about the same thing but people told me that question gets asked all the time and others said just get your exhaust you'll be fine. My question was if I get an exhaust mnnthbx hfm tyga ect and chimera intake do I need one of these fuel controllers map ecu things or can I just run my bike without it or will it run lean ect and screw up my bike? Cause I had on my Subaru STi a full turbo back exhaust and cold air intake and I had to get a plug in chip with maps and then get it tuned because the cars ecu would throw check engine lights cause it didn't know what was going on. So say either tyga full system or mnnthbx exhaust...can you just run that and be fine or I need say a ZFi or ejk? Also same thing but add chimera intake...please some one help me out thanks

Oops, I just made a new thread basically asking this. I'm adding on a Chimera and Two Bros full system. I just dont want to pick up a fuel controller yet as I will be a in a couple weeks when I get my bore up kit. I don't want to wait to install my parts. :(

You'll be fine without a fuel controller. Yes, it will run a bit lean but it's not going to blow up your motor (unless you going WOT for like 5 hours straight). A fuel controller is recommended and a way to read your air/fuel ratio would be nice.

Ok thanks...but I'm getting two diffrent answers one is yours, the yeah it will lean out but ect ect it's ok go ahead...and others say don't do it for instance here's what someone else said copied pasted
"I only measured A/F ratio with K&N1100 intake and an other exhaust (TwoBrothers full system , and open muffler without cat and Yoshimura RS-9 Slipon with db-killer).
What I found out that mine leaned out very dangerously at WOT and higher RPMs, exactly there where it really should run rich. A/F ratios were higher than Lambda1=14.7, I have seen 15 and more and such numbers you really do not want to see at WOT. I also saw them only for seconds and closed throttle to save engine.
So, both mods lean fuelratio out, together of course more than 1 change (intake or exhaust) alone.
I would not run it with intake and/or exhaust mod without a fuel controller."
so I don't know lol

I too have been wondering this. While I have both an intake and exhaust I have not run them together. Interestingly enough either mod by themselves gives very similar top end gains over stock on my bike.
While it is much appreciated that folk post the findings of other folks and quote what they have read here on the interwebz I really wish someone would test this stuff out and actually provide hard data as to how this bike runs sans the controller with these mods. Most of the focus has been on the BBK stuff and while that's nice the majority of people start with intake/exhaust mods and it would be awesome to see some concrete numbers from reputable people with solid data (even pictures of plugs) would be nice.

Hi guys, I'm new here and have a lot of questions regarding this fuel controller stuffs. I've been running with Two Bros full exhaust and 36T rear sporket for a while, without any other adjustment.

Now I'm about to get new air filter and a Yuminashi lightbore injector (I suppose it helps increase fuel input, am I right?). So I guess basically I would increase both air flow and fuel input, just not sure about the ratio. Do I need a fuel controller or any AFR monitor tools to get it right, or the stock ECU will just need to be reset and then it will adjust itself?

I'm really scared of ruining the bike after reading all about running lean. Please help!

Wondering the same... what's the cheapest way to add a bit of fuel all through the range?

I know on cars the cheapest "performance chips" are just a resistor on the intake (temp/pressure) sensor to make it think it's (colder/thicker air) and you need more fuel.

To be honest at stage one, being intake/exhaust without BBK, I think something like that could be effective.

I just got an ejk and it was definitaly worth the money. The plug comes out slightly brown now. I added fuel WOT and it pulls good now. Before it felt like it hesitated to go. My guess was it was leaning out. I ran it over 1000 miles with filter and exhaust its still fine but i think your on the edge. You can run the exhaust and filter no tuner but i wouldnt do it indefinitely.

i definitly recommend a fuelcontroller with intake and exhaust "modified".
bigger injector alone does not really help because of the nature of the beast of Honda selflearning ECU.
an EJK would be the cheapest way but of course there are some other options too.

i personally now use a Yuminashi 164cc kit with own ECU, so i stopped playing around with EJK, even it worked fine.
