New Monkey ABS owner as of today 11/16/19 (you can see by my avatar I still have my 1969 z50 from my childhood).

Not having bought a motorcycle post internet I was amazed how difficult dealerships in Florida make web shopping, particularly detailing the Out the Door price. You would think it's almost the year 2020 in the largest market for consumer goods comparing prices apple for apple would be just a few clicks away.

Instead I found myself going back in time to the old let me talk to my manager sales tactics. I had one "internet sales specialist" not reply to a single question I had but rather write that it was critical to conduct the conversation over the telephone and wouldn't I just call him.

The fees some of the dealers have dreamed up (tire valve stems and battery fees) are bizarre. Some dealers have exorbitant document fees. Let's get real it's twenty minutes minutes maximum of data entry in a software program, it doesn't require a para-legal.

I also discovered a credit card purchase is "not cash" to some dealer's as they want to avoid the excessive credit card fees (there's an irony there).

I only managed to get two detailed out the door prices (neither in writing) and they were not for the 2019 ABS model that I wanted. They were slightly over $5000. Being a snow bird I decided to email a dealer near my house in NY State.

Quickly received a written out the door price of : $3939 for the ABS bike, $70 for the set-up, $100 for destination, $100 for docs, total $4209 (I would have to pay Florida registration and my local FL sales tax). I did the whole deal over email and sent them a check by mail. Arrived at the dealership this morning, everything was ready, they helped load it into my pickup, spent fifteen minutes there in total.

This is the buying experience I expected initially shopping on the web in Florida but alas it was not to be. Anyhow, here is a picture of the bike (still with zero miles on it) parked on my property along the Upper Delaware River. Super excited to see where this Monkey takes me.

Interesting to hear the differences. Should post the name of the NY dealer as they found like a place others would be happy to deal with as well.

Congrats on the new bike!

Congratulations and welcome. Understand your frustration, for I went through the same here. The price difference was over $700... mainly for; "Dealer Prep / Rigging Fee" and a small amount in sales tax % difference. The dealers in question were 150 miles apart; one in a rural area and the other (expensive one) in a larger city.

Enjoy your new Monkey.

Here in Europe the price is fixed by Honda through their dealership.
So every shop that has them is the same price.
Only difference is each countries tax price
