I'm about to buy a Monkey. Yellow, no ABS.
Before I go in to negotiate, I thought I would see what you all paid for your Monkeys.

I'm paying all cash.
I'm in California and this is the breakdown that I've been able to figure out.

MSRP $3999
Tax 6.5% $260
Destination $190
Tag/Title $100
Set up Fee $300
Document Fee $100

$4949

I realize the dealer needs to make some money too. That will probable be another $300 to $500.
So the bike will probably be over $5000 out the door?
Are my expectations right?

What did you guys pay?

I don't know how much of a demand there is now, but with your breakdown, I would hold them to under $5000. Let them make their money on their doc and set up fees. That's 10% of the bike's MSRP. Plus, if they sell the monkey at full pop, they typically make about 10% on that as well.

I paid around 4400 for mine OTD, but the dealer and I go waaaaaaay back about 30 years. My tax rate here is 4.15%
I think I paid $4375 for one with ABS ($4200 MSRP). That did not include sales tax or title though. I had to drive a little ways out of town for that deal, as my local dealership wanted almost $5k exclusive of tax for the same bike. This was back in late March.
As a comparison, I paid $4,300 cash out the door for my 2018 Grom. That includes 9.5% California sales tax. Everything costs more in Los Angeles.
Thanks for the replies.
It's very helpful to hear from people who actually bought the bike
instead of loud mouths that tell me they could negotiate a lot of the fees out......blah...blah...blah.

The California bikes also have to be compliant with our EPA requirements.
I don't know if Honda issued a California specific model.
If so, there is probably cost baked into that too.

As Swampass noted there is probably wiggle room in the Setup and Docs fees.
So I‘ll work within that when negotiating.

If I can get a price under $5000, I‘ll be happy.

I hope I can join you all in being a Monkey owner.

In Colorado with my non-ABS Yellow, the dealer first quoted me at $5488.29 and I said HELL NO. Bought it for the following, which is still a bit high honestly:

Selling Price - $4,175.18
Delivery & Handling - $249
Tax - $345.64
TOTAL - $4,769.82
Call around and see what other dealerships will give you. Your local dealership might be more willing to work with you on the price if they have what you want in stock, and you have a quote for less money from another dealership. While mine did not, it was worth driving an hour out of my way to save several hundred bucks.

In this area, the yellow monkeys are in high demand. It seems to be the color combo every one is going for. I was offered money for mine on two separate occasions. Both times at the shop I purchased from. There were two brand new red ones on the floor. I mentioned that and was told they wanted yellow.
Western Pennsylvania. I paid $4790 out the door for a Yellow non abs. Do they offer abs in Yellow?
Over here in Sydney Australia a Monkey with ABS costs $ 6233.00 AUD retail on the road, there was a $200.00 increase in April, I have had a Red Monkey on order since January, plenty of Blue, Black available, my dealer has just told me today they are swapping a Yellow ABS Monkey they have in stock with another dealer for a Red ABS Monkey that they have in stock so I should finally have a Red Monkey this coming weekend, my dealer gave me a out the door price registered on the road for $5500.00 AUD
You know, once you're riding a bike, what you paid for it becomes irrelevant... so just buy it and ride. :) That's what I did. I simply negotiated to arrive at the dealer's going rate.

I agree fully, I got mine cheap but put several grand into it immediately. When people ask how much it cost, I just tell them it is all about the smiles per mile. I could be on an Africa twin or a Duke, but the Pimp Chimp is WAY more fun.

I probably have $7000 in mine as it sits. I don't care. I love it. I ride the damned thing everywhere.

Davo, you ordered from Escape Motorcycles? There was a yellow one there the other day and now a red one has taken it’s place so I guess that’s yours?

Might see you around, I’m in Sylvania
yellow monkey 125, always no abs in yellow for the u.s. so far...i paid 4,189.00 all said and done. its the only bike i want! its so well done too. very honda with nice hoses, clamps, wires, hangers, no cheapo flimsy stuff. thee only thing im gonna change is getting that huge lobster tail off the rear!
I heard of some LA peeps that drive out of state to pick up their groms way back in 2014 when the price of the first groms in Calif was about $3,400-4,400 OTD

I called around all over Northern Calif and I found a place that sold my first grom for $3,900 OTD Hollister Power sport and my second grom was a place out side of Santa Cruz for $3,600 OTD.

So I called the same place that I got my second grom on the cost for a 2019 grom and it was like $3,990 OTD non-ABS

So as you can see if you shop around you can get a good deal.

WOW, what state was this in?
I'm wondering about that $4189 myself. Seems like $3999 for the bike and $190 for the delivery charge to equal $4189? What about the taxes and title fees?
