OK which mod really improved your Grom top end, airbox, 14T, lighten flywheel

I'm not going after the sound of the Grom via the stock pipes being changed but for the real world GROM riders what mods that you did that you noticed the improvement in performance and top end speed and stop light to stop light get up and go.

Did the 14T really help your top end speed?

Did the airbox mod really help your Grom breath better and maintain top end speed and get up and go?

Did lighting the flywheel and the oil spinner really help you get up to speed faster?

I'm not concern about the sound of my Grom and I love to keep peace with my neighbors that is why I'm not going to change the stock pipes yet. I like quiet for now.

Like I said only members who have really done these mods chime in and give me your opinion and also what mod you would have done first or which mod you noticed the best results.

No second hand information please just your own experience, Thanks

I did the radiator hose mod to the airbox that Stroked-GE did in his build and gained 3-4 mph. My pipe and gearing are stock. I think this is the best bang for the buck change any Grom owner could do. BUGS2K has the same mod with a 14 tooth front and I can out pull him under most conditions or we are even. Gonna check his mods out today as he extended his swingarm and did some lowering. He may cheat the wind better now-we'll see.

Thank you sir for your reply

Like the race world, performance equal AIR, COMPRESSION, FUEL, OIL, Gearing and stream lining

Hey cheating is good in the race world of motor, esp back when you could dump a 1100cc GSXR engine in a 750 frame and tell your friends you have a 750 and smoke them.
14T will slow down top end, unless you are really light I believe. I'm 155/6' and I top out around ~65/68. It does help low end though. Very noticeable next to a 15T.

Intake and exhaust will help.

No idea on flywheel.

My 2 cents.

14t will limit your top end due to the rev limiter, on stock gearing I could get 73 on the limiter.. 14t is 69 on the limiter
So more Fresh Air is the key.
With my 14t I am about even on top speed as my 15. The 14 pulls much easier and I can go faster without tucking. I am back on my 15 for testing, going back to a 14 in a week or so. I rarely have a need to go over 55 anyways

OK. BUGS2K and I did 85 miles yesterday with alot of WOT. The bikes are so close I have to say no clear winner. We are both over 1200 miles on the odometers. Aero is so critical that if one of us has his head higher the other gains a lead. His stretched and lowered bike with 14t looks cool and seems to be out of the breeze enough to stay right with me with the 15t. Had a light wind riding and fastest speed I saw was 67 mph tucked. Had a blast running the Clay county roads and at the lunch stop the waitress commented "Those bikes look like windup toys". Need more Groms to join in next time out...

btx intake kit got me past the 70 mark. 75+ downhill on stock gearing and tires.

Or maybe its just me :cool2:
Where can I find the Stroked-GE air box modification instruction?
ama
Thanks gals/guys for your input and so far it is the airbox mod and streamline that gets the upper limit speed.

what is your weight and height, just wondering about exposure to the wind if you are upper body tall exposing more mass to the wind causing resistance.
When I did the stoked_ge radiator hose mod I swear the acceleration was better. Or it could have been just psychological because of the noise.

yep it's like my friends who own Harleys and such and put a pipe on their Harley and swear that they are going faster.

My gauge for faster is a timed run on a set race coarse or long stretch of road used for testing.

Dyno HP is just a machine measurement but real Road riding on a timed track will tell you the difference.
Remember the 14t will make your speedometer tell you that you are going faster than you really are. By about 3 or 4 mph faster..... This is because the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is on the output shaft, not the front wheel hub like older Honda minis.

Also rider weight is the most important comparison point. Two bikes with the same setup but different rider weights will perform much different at every speed and in every gear. This is common and extremely noticeable on these little Monkey bikes.
5'7" 19x Downhill, slight tuck and hit (indicated, not gps) 72. Only mods are 14t and airbox mod so far. Just shedding some weight now. ash can removed, tail fender. My next mod isn't for everyone though. Its about $200 and takes 24 days to install. Should take off about 20lbs though. Stay tuned!

I considered liposuction. My cheeks start to hurt after sucking that straw though....

Yes, Since mine is still 15t front and BUGS2K has 14, we are able to tell the mph diff. in the readouts. His is always higher by 2-3 mph. The time I hit 71 his was 73 and I was pulling away slightly.
I started off with a 14 tooth sprocket on a 2017 stock grom. Barely noticed anything but it did help low end power a little. Then put on the chimera intake and a full hindle exhaust. That was super noticeable. I only race my grom and I notice after the intake and exhaust I could run the same lap times as the CRF100's. Before the intake and exhaust I was 2 -3 seconds slower. Then I added rearsets and Mitas mc35 tires. That really got me consistent times to keep up with stock crf100f's. Before I was scraping pegs which would totally kill my drive out of corners. Now I only touch the bottom of the exhaust on one of the tightest corners.

I have way more power from 6k - 9k but its still not enough. I get passed on long straits by the CRF's but everywhere else I am as fast or faster. Any suggestions to improve my power up top?
