so i got to ride Comps Grom last night. other than the craftsmanship of the ext and bar being awesome, here's what i noticed.

the bars are MUCH more comfortable than i had expected. before riding it i thought that the bars would be too low and too close to my body in my ride position. surprisingly they were really, really comfortable. the Ohlins was buttery smooth and the ext made the ride so much more stable at speed. the cornering, i didn't notice anything but i wasn't really railing thru any turns.

oh with this set up, YOU CAN NOT WHEELIE THE BIKE lol i tried and tried and tried. i could only lift the wheel about 3 inches. good for hard lauches.

I would love a set of the race bar z.. I'm sure they are great quality but i just can't justify the price...

i;m also still on the fence for the ohlins.
Dont think I am on the fence for the Ohlins shock at all. It seems to be a bargain compared to the RaceTech and John and Composimo said in a post that he could powder coat the spring to a color of my choice. Now I am waiting to see what Ohlins does with the front fork. I am told they are working on that too.

Is the ohlins overkill for someone who just commutes on the bike? I honestly don't know. I've never had an ohlins suspension piece.

If comfort is a priority for you then, Yes.
also if you commute on shitty roads then yea
i have only rode an R1 with Ohlins front/rear suspension.
Not sure you can every justify that cost though lol

Talked to the guys from ohlins at the a.i.m.e show in Orlando about front suspension spring drop in , and he said " we have nothing in the works and not planing on anything at this time " I was disappointed to hear that but what can you do. I also found out that the composimo version is much different shock body( due to his stretch kit set up),the one for the stock set up,has a much shorter eye to eye measurement

Hmmmm bit different from the info I got. Well in the end I know Groms are going to be raced more and more. Suspension improvements will come. I just need to wait.

Grom Pilot: The rear shock that was on the white bike at the show is an off-the-shelf Ohlins shock... not sure who told you that it was different in some way than the one they had on the table, but it is the exact same one....

Also, regarding the statement about Ohlins and the front forks.... depending on who you talked to at AIME, this is both true and untrue (one of the guys working the booth does not actually work at Ohlins, he has his own shop that sells and builds stuff using Ohlins parts, but he is not up-to-speed on what is actually happening there with the people i'm working with).

The thing about Ohlins, is it is very hard to make anything new happen because everything has to go through the home office in Sweden... However, after the response the Grom got at the show, i'd suspect that they will push harder to make Sweden do something. The biggest thing is that OhlinsUSA is essentially a 'distributor' with the capability to do some minor custom work and service the factory suspension parts... they do not do production runs of anything there... They ARE indeed looking at the front forks though... whether something will actually come from it directly from them is another story.

That being said, i certainly am not waiting for it, and the bike that Lenny rode had a prototype "ComposiMo Fork Upgrade Kit" in it on the lowered forks, but it'll work with stock height as well... But if you lower without doing something, then the forks will easily bottom out. With this setup in there, they don't bottom out easily at all, and the "feel actually matches the rear shock feel/dampening... "my" solution definitely is nowhere near as awesome as a full set of Ohlins forks would be, however it also won't have the $1500-ish price tag either... haha!

Also, in other news, be on the lookout for some other really interesting parts coming in the rear suspension world as well. I love Ohlins products, no doubt... but there is another quality player entering the game from the UK very soon that has some VERY trick components, and its every bit the same quality as Ohlins, just not as well known yet. I'll have more info in the coming weeks, as i have a prototype rear shock coming from them to test out on the bike.

When I looked at your on the bike the eye to eye length was different then the one on the table, due to the fact it was longer to accomidate your stretch and the bracket that bolts to the swing arm and then to the lower shock eyelet.....am I wrong? I swear the caps were different...maybe it's time to go to lens crafters( new glasses ). Either way super pimp parts.

Did you guys see the GROM that was outside by the demo trucks. It had a JRI shock on it. Very nice quality. I scanned the QR tag and it said for more info to contact JRI directly. I was not able to sit on it but it look much more stout than stock or YSS. I also stopped by the EPM booth, YSS USA, and the people there seemed a bit rude and disinterested in questions.

ComposiMo: are you talking about the Nitron Racing shocks? I spoke to them and looked to have an awesome quality shock they're working on. Similar price range, if not a hair less.
