Used to run em on my old 8v watercooled VW's and had great experiences. You can advance your cam timing to move your power curve lower in the rev range (which also increases dynamic compression), or you can retard the timing to move your peak power higher in the rev range.

Another pro to advancing your cam timing is the increase in throttle response and torque that helps to lower your mpg's, especially if your running a cam that has a higher power curve.
