My headlight was done today. HID kit is awesome! Couldn't tell until tonight the difference in light and it's great. Didn't ride much, sick and crawled back into bed. Will have update with more pics and video soon.

A 4300k-5000k HID bulb without a retrofit?
Yes, best light output is 4300k such as OEM bulbs its much easier on the eyes as well. Personally I've done a about 10 retrofits in cars/trucks I did one in my gsxr and regretted doing it. In a car the cutoff stays horizontral, but on a bike when you lean so does the cutoff and with the suspension moving all over the place so would the cutoff.
I'm usually against plug and play his kits but I went this route with my grom.

i agree with your color temp selection. i partially agree with your recommendation against a projector retro. it really has to depend on the type of riding the owner will do at night. personally, i do not ride as lively at night as during the day. yes, while turning, the cutoff can produce a negative result. however, if you install a bi-xenon projector, activating the high beam will help alleviate this problem.

for an example, see around3:30 in this vid (btw, the camera doesn't property represent the throw and width of the output. it's much wider and farther in person)

in my opinion, if you do not ride aggressively at night, the pros of a proper projector retro outweigh the cons.

Lighting Light Night Asphalt Driveway

That is a Thai light with HID. Why not just buy a quality halogen bulb and not have light scatter all over the place? D2S is not made for reflectors, period. The cutoff rotates when you turn, but maybe I am not riding aggressively enough for this to become an issue. Just something about awesome light output and spread that just does it for me.

Everybody would like a retro , most don't want to pay for it.

Any hid kit is brighter then a "good" reg bulb, and yes more annoying to other drivers

Here are few of mine with my pnp kit with Hi/low bulb. Yes it does have glare, but the beam is right in front of me. Have not been flashed yet.. I have a shield on the bottom of my bulb so that might make a difference that just a normal hid bulb.

I do have to agree about the moving cutoff. On stock suspension my cutoff is a bit bouncy with a Mini H1 6.0, but I think vacuforming the projector may help that a bit. I installed my retrofit a while back and was really happy with the output and beam pattern, only issue was the damn bouncing. Here is my cutoff on the retro for the Grom:
