The trail is a more capable trail bike.. bigger wheels, large load deck, auto clutch, a high air intake for safe water crossings... if you can find one, sit on it and see how it fits you.. or maybe a dealer will let you try it. I'd have one if Honda Canada ever imports it here..

I have both a 2019 Monkey and a 2021 Trail, and I totally agree with Mingo. If I could only keep one then I'd keep the Trail. The bigger wheels make a substantial ride improvement, and overall the Trail is just a bit bigger than the Monkey. I thought I'd not like the auto clutch, I've always been something of a standard purist. Obviously the launch is all centrifugal clutch, but the shifts are very much like any other manual except you feather the shifter to get your clutch action. Hard to describe well, but it is all good. Both great bikes, but the Trail is hands down my favorite.

Definitely go for the Trail 125.
I’ve got a Grom and a Trail 125 and have taken the Trail to Colorado a couple of times and was really impressed at what it was capable of doing.
I removed the low front fender and replaced it with a high mount, changed the gearing, and installed real knobbies on the bike.
Absolutely love this machine.
