Hey folks, been scratching my head on the best way to padlock the grom up when out to the shops. I have an alarm installed and I used the oxford disk lock alarm but that's all. Would be nice to know what setup you guys use with pics to make my bike even safer. I just have the fear of someone with a van coming along and picking the bike up and throwing it in the back and driving off even if the alarm is sounding.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Do you just run the bike chain through the wheels, as there isn't really a part of the swing arm you can feed the chain through?

Whipping of the wheel on the grom wouldn't take long either and they would still be away with the bike and buy a new wheel/tyre which isn't really expensive. :-(

If they want it, they are taking it. Period
Even if you are standing right next to it.
Staring down the barrel of a .45 will have you handing over the Key happily
Bingo.....

What kind of alarm system do you have? I've been looking to get one.

So what is your lock set up jet
Read my post above, its not just the lock set, WHERE you park it is just as important... I would never park it in a private, out of the way place.. If there is no good secure place to park, I will drive the car, not take the GROM. My GROM stays in my house, that has a commercial grade alarm system with motion detectors, even if someone REALLY WANTS my GROM, all they would get is a free ride to jail :D If I left my GROM outside the driveway, it would have been stolen long ago.... There are a lot of very good bike locks out there that are not easily cut. And even better there are now some that have electronics built in that will send a notification to your cellphone if it is being tampered with :)

Does anyone know a good disk brake lock? The kind with an alarm?

Most people seem to say they're either not sensitive enough or they're so sensitive a good gust of wind will set them off.

I use a Xena -- it will go off if something heavy falls near it, but I have never been surprised by it going off when I didn't think it should.

my pic showing my grom being secured via the front wheel is not a good idea, better place would be between the front suspension tubes and the fender. I know of one person that had his bike stolen because he had his grom secured at his home to a pole and front wheel and the group of thieves just removed the front tire and threw the grom in the back of their car and drove off. The good news is that the thieves got into a car accident a block from his house and the cops question the people in the car about the grom and who owns it and the lic plate back ground check found the real owner. so the best bet is to secure the front via the tubes of the front suspension and the rear wheel via a cable lock your rear luggage rack or rear shocks and rear pegs.

Just remember your insurance might not cover any after market parts and plus the insurance company will go by Blue Book value or dealer's buy back valve which is a standard $2,600 even if it is brand new. The $2,600 is what I was quoted for my trade in of my grom to buy a KTM 1290 Duke even though I had $2,000 in after market parts and go fast parts.

There are some very good chains and padlocks around now but one piece of advice.

When you lock your bike to something with a chain, try if possible to do it so the chain is completely off the ground. It's much more difficult to attack the chain or the padlock with tools or bolt cutters if it's dangling in mid air.

Khauff my advice, enjoy it while you have it, don't take it to very lonely places, don't leave it unattended for too long, ride it just to get something quick from the store and park it near your sight, park it inside your home garage with closed door, don't leave it in your driveway for people to see it. A friend of mine got his new $10,000 Yamaha stolen from his driveway, bike never was recovered.

I purchased my Grom last December, it just stays inside my home garage with surveillance cameras 24/7 and my job's garage where there are security guards and surveillance cameras 24/7, but still may be stolen. Worse of all, insurance may pay only like $2,000 no matter how much you have paid on upgrades.
