Just received my lighten flywheel and oil spinner back from JCracing. These lighten parts should give my Grom motor a faster spin up time and cruzing speed between 20mph and getting on the throttle a faster response.

Here is the Flywheel before and after wt and pic

Flywheel wt before sending out, 2.6 lbs or 1210g

after lighten 2 lbs or 919g,
notice the metal was machine from both sides of the magnet pick up tabs which there are 9 of them.

The oil spinner before sending out for lighten, 2.27 lbs or 1030g

after lighten, 1.08 lbs or 492g

notice the amount of machine work, it removed the outer layer 3 holes

Looks good... Let us know the results after few test ride...

braap
yep as soon as my Grom gets to the dealer, been doing all the prep work before I get my Grom or TWO.

I will ride the Grom stock first to do all the baseline testing and data recording before adding the MOD's, I like to see the before and after data and keep a good record of what I discovered that work or not.

Got my rims done with no black paint, all that is left is to clear seal the rim, install the bearings and dust seal, install the air valve, install the brake dics and mount the Michelin tires and balance.

The spare white body panels, fender, hugger, gas tank over has to be painted.

The spare swingarm will be strip of the black paint, clear coated and sent out to BrianS to have the rubber unit removed and the needle bearings installed and the set of fork caps will be sent to BrianS to have the AIR ASSIST valve installed so I can have front fork adjustable settings.

Waiting for Corbin to finish off my snake skin seat.

That's it for now for phase 1.

you should buy the one that is in reno for sale .. its a good deal
right now I need a new Grom for baseline testing and data gathering. These data will be used for hopefully real world testing of upgrade parts such as engine mods, airbox mods, sprocket changes, etc. Engine compression will be checked at new and wt of Grom in stock form will be checked with full tank of gas. I'm doing this just as a learning curve in building motorcycles and such plus it gives me something to do and I like looking at things from a scientific point of view and why things work or not.

All my motorcycles are bought new, that way I know that all the maintenance work has been done correctly. I only bought three motorcycles used since I knew the owners for two of the motorcycles and the third motorcycle 1971 Honda SL-125 was a estate sale item with only under 700 original miles on the odm.

I think you just need a few more parts and you can put a whole bike together! Everything is looking good and you are going to have a sweet ride. Looking forward to seeing that seat. Thanks for posting all your info of before and after, helps out the community!!

Cisco.. Any updates on the performance of these two? Worth it? Anyone else that has can chime in. Thnx
Haven't done much on my RED Grom been sitting with the 170cc cylinder, the port/polish head and duel valve spring setup with over size intake valve and Crower cam with PCV 5 and O2 autosensor unit and PC-150 F/I. Still waiting for my modified stock exhaust pipe to be welded with the bung and also the special 1" pipe that will take the place of the CAT systems and the CAT plate welded back up.

By the way got my CLOCK cleaned by two scooters coming back from the Gilroy Garlic festival on Monterey hwy, dam BLUE stock Grom would only top out at 60 mph and those scooters just walked away like two periods at the end of a sentence, I was wishing I had my RED GROM to see what it would do.

Cisco - any updates? Im looking to get these from JR..
they are worth getting but I have not installed them in any of my two groms since I like the way both the BrianS 170 and the Finbro 183 BBK kits are running with out the lighten flywheel.

I like to do wheelies and reading up about flywheel and what it's intended purpose is for I decided to leave both groms stock fly wheel, I might change the oil spinner out only.

From my take on the video above, it's a great idea to remove weight from the flywheel. Am I missing something? Is my comprehension accurate? I've had a lightened flywheel on the Grom for at least 18 months and it's been great. Not the first bike that has had it either. Of course there are some pro and cons of nearly everything, but as far as the flywheel goes, a properly balanced, and accurately lightened flywheel is a positive gain on the Grom.

I believe with the lighten flywheel and oil spinner you will have the advantage on the hole shot leaving the stop light/racing tree light/etc.

With your lighten hardware Flywheel/oil spinner did you notice any HP gain "dyno test", mpg gain.

First we have to understand what power and energy are, and what rotating mass does with that power or energy. Contrary to popular belief, rotating mass does not consume energy. A rotating (or moving) mass stores energy. This effect is very much the same as pouring energy in a bucket, much like charging a capacitor in an electronics circuit. Virtually all of the stored energy, except for that lost by conversion to heat, is still there and available to do work at some time in the future. That future where energy is returned might be milliseconds later and help us out, or it could be some considerable time later and waste energy. This is why time is very important.

here is the whole info on wt ver lighten
