When you take the valve cover off, inspect the o ring,if it popped out when you were in the process of tighting the valve cover, you probably flat spotted the o ring. Sometimes you can get lucky and wipe a little bit of grease in the valley the o ring sits in as well as wipe the entire oring and reinstall. The grease will act as a seal as well and oil is thiner then the grease so it won't bleed through. You do need to torque the valve cover to the recomened spec ,when you over tighten that's when you end up flattening the O ring . When you have the right tension and the motor is going through normal heat cycles from riding, when the head heats up during a duty cycle the metal (valve covers and cylinder heads) expand ever so little the oring moves to ever so slightly to keep a seal, if its over tightened to the point where it flatens the oring the two surfaces are touching then when it gets hot there no place for expansion and valve cover will warp a little and start weeping. When the motor cools it goes back, but it will keep getting worse.
