Hello Fellow Gommers,

Does anybody have issues with the kill switch Clamshell on the ProTaper bars? The problem I'm having is that the Clamshell doesn't close all the way and leaves a gap at the bottom. The bars are the ProTaper 7/8's, sorry for the bad pictures (posting on phone)

did you drill the bars for the locating pin in the throttle assembly?

You need to drill a hole for the nipple thingy, or grind off the nipple. Look at your stock bars, there's a hole underneath on each side, that's where the nipple slides in.

I'm suppose to drill a hole into the bar? I didn't know ow about that, I never looked at the stock bars when I took them off? So does the ProTaper bars have an indication mark, or I got to measure and mark these?

you need to measure and mark them


don't grind the nub off.

I used a silver sharpie to mark it while clam shell was unclamped, then drilled where my dot ended up.

I think the last discussion, someone suggested nail polish on the nipples. Or a dab of paint, etc.

But, they are metal, so it should have made a mark through the paint on the new bars, possibly.

Are these "nipples" inside the clamshell, or are they in the pictures I posted above? I have not tried to take it apart yet, thanks.

they are on the inside. when you separate the housing you'll see it. it prevents the housing from rotating on the bar.

select a drill size that is only marginally larger than the nipple itself. or check the size of the hole on the stock bars and match it.

Thanks for the info, for some reason the hard metal-like tabs made me think it was something else
