Hey guys,

My k&n airfilter arrived today but I am hesitating to install it after reading some more...

My concerns are:

How will it deal with rain? I live in Belgium so we do see alot of rain here...

Will it run to lean if I leave the O2 sensor inside the airbox?

Will it run worse then before because the ecu won't be remapped?

I hope some guys that have done the mod can enlighten me...

Just fit it - all should be fine - it's pretty well shielded from rain.

Hey just for clarification, the sensor in the air box is an Air Temperature Sensor. The O2 sensor is actually located in the cylinder head near the exhaust pipe.

Do you recommend disconnecting the battery for a bit so the ecu adjusts?
Thats not how to reset the ecu - if you look on the forum the reset procedure is shown - involves linking a wire in a connector and opening the throttle, tun on key, wait for a light to flash, close throttle, wait 3 sec then turn off ignition - then disconnect the link on the connector.

Yes indeed, my mistake I meant the air sensor.

Does it make alot of difference if I don't attach it to the K&N but leave it in the airbox?
I have not done it myself so keep that in mind. I am thinking the temperature in the air box is not going to be hugely different from the temperature going through the air filter.

However, I have seen guys mount that sensor to the top of the pod filter to get it closer. If it were me, I would probably try it in the air box. If I was happy with the way it ran I would leave it. If not, I would move it to the filter itself.

Good luck

I will try it Like you are saying. I will disconnect the battery to reset the ecu tho. First i will be changing the oil.

If you are worried about it getting wet, you can purchase a K&N Drycharger (other brands are available, but often known as "Hydroshields" ).
It's made of a water repelling fabric and slips over the filter.

Take a look on the K&N website, they make various sizes.

We did the airbox removal on ours and installed a uni filter. The fit is perfect onto the throttle body and since the filter is 'squishable' it will fit inside the bodywork and frame. We also installed a mini filter for the crankcase breather. This Uni filter has a secondary filter inside that is oiled, so not sure how well it would perform in the rain since it doesn't rain here much. A marked increase in performance with the Arrow full system we have.

Where did you mount the Air Temp Sensor?

Hi there, so ill share my experience :

1) It's not a problem with the raim, 95% of the filter is totally covered by the fairing, last time it was raining during 24 hrs there and my bike was parked outside, started and ride without a problem.

2) Personally i left the sensor in the box, its not a bid deal

3) ECU remapped, as far as i know there's no need to reset the ECU which is supposed to adjust himself automatically, however ive unplug the battery 1 hr when i did it, no idea if the ECU was reset but my clock was !

Two points.... (1) Why would anyone leave 5lbs worth of useless airbox on there once the filter is on the throttle body? (2) You want the temp sensor really near the filter to reflect accurate temps coming in the motor, and above it, so it doesn't pick up excessive "fake" heat from the engine itself.

Personally i let the airbox because i was just annoying to remove it and i was not sure if i was going to let the K&N filter, now im just lazy to unmount the box.

Besides i plan to use it as a small storage unit (yah.. really) i will change the screw and try to setup an easy opening, store some extra tools there and whathever.
