SORRY if this has already been covered, It probably has a good number of times but I couldnt find anything.

Ive got the standard airbox and I see everyone is swapping to a K&N R1100.
Is it worth it? any noticable differences?
Pros & Cons
Will I need to adjust fuelling?
I am also running a Tyga Maggot full system if that effects anything.

opinions welcome :)
thanks in advance

I've been on this forum since june/july... and i still don't know the answer to this question! I was reading up on loss of top end speed caused by the loss of air velocity after a exhaust install.

I would also like to know what dyno tests show before and after KN vs UNI filter mod.

My highway speed use to be 63-68... On wed, i took the freeway home after a bike meetup, and was barely able to get up to 60. I avg about 58! On one hill, i very surprisingly slowed down to 48mph!

It was windy and I did have the EMGO trunk installed. I need to do further testing without the EMGO to see if i can eek out a few extra mph's.

I'm not looking to hit 70-75-80... I just want to be able to stay safe freeway speeds of 60-65!

Yes. I installed DG slip on. Louder than stock. Faster? Not sure. Then I modded (opened up) air box a bit. Louder than stock. Faster? No. Then I installed cone filter. Louder than stock. Faster? YES. With out a doubt. Revs up quicker, pulls hills easier.

Well worth it IMO.

Not butt hurt even a little bit, the slightest bit even. I've found every bit of info I've needed here while trying not to piss off members here that posted their hard work that they've posted. I was on the road and didn't have a few minutes to type the info out or I would've. Was trying to let a fellow member know it is on the site because I couldn't answer their question, No more, no less. Wasn't trying to be a dick to the op. I apologize if it came off that way.

Sincerely

ppl here get so butt hurt when something gets asked twice lighten up ppl its a forum alot has changed since the first ppl have asked...... from what ive been told you wont need to do anything else and it should help a lil bit performance wise.

I made a makeshift intake with a Dayco 71863 radiator hose from advanced auto parts. Drilled out the hole in the stock airbox to 2 in and ran the hose thru there and attached the k&n filter to it. Under 15 bucks and u have a makeshift intake with the back of the stock airbox still installed. U can even put the front of the airbox back on if u want the stock look but I've been running it open. I'm getting 72 indicated with this setup, a 14t sprocket and tyga maggot full exhaust. This shows about 67 mph on my gps app so that's probably pretty close to actual speed. I'm slower on the low end now than before but from 45 mph to top end, it's night and day faster and that's where I do the majority of my riding.

And to answer your question, yes do it. I reset the ecu right after these changes and it immediately seemed to adjust no problem and the gains were instant. Sound is way better with the k&n also, much deeper growl. I can post some pics if u want next time i take off my right plastics to show u exactly how I set it up. I liked leaving the airbox in tact so I wouldnt have to use a fairing brace or anything and it keeps the bike looking stock-ish.

Did the radiator hose mod and ordered a DNA filter element from Greece. I was running a UNI on the TB, went back to airbox with radiator hose and stock filter, seems to me the low and mid power came back with same top speed. So, the DNA element should be even better. I don't like the intake noise. Seems to me the restriction is that wimpy little air duct between the airbox and the TB.

Yes it is also steadygarage.com has a chimera short ram intake that deletes the airbox. Way better than just the r-1100. I just changed my r-1100 to the chimera intake and its seems like its getting better air because it sticks out of the side panels under the forks and it makes my mnnthbx exhaust sound more throaty definitely worth 150
