I'm not sure if I should get a Grom.

I like honda a lot, the bike looks great. But for the same money I could get a cbr 250 2012.
I don't want to look like a gorilla on a 50cc dirt bike.

..... Any pointers would help.... I'm like 6'1 250lbs.
I weigh more then the grom... Lol.

For a first motorcycle for all-around use, especially if you need to do interstate riding, for sure go with the 250 vs. a Grom. You get more versatility. Personally, I like the Ninja 300 much more than the Honda 250, but both are excellent first bikes.

At your height, look at the dual sport bikes too.
Thanks!
And I currently have a 08 yamaha tw200. For trails.
But the fastest road I will be taking the grom on would be 50. I'd be fine doing about 50-55 on it.

Also have two deposits and I'm basically next on list for a red one.
I guess I'm just gonna get one and see what the damn hype is all about lol.
Also weird OTD price for one is 3700 while the other is 3415$.
The dealer that said 3415 says everyone's price is the same ... Lol.
Can't wait. I always wanted a ct70.
I used to have a 73 ct90.

you will be fine on a grom .. im just as big as you are and love my grom .. personally everyone who rides a grom looks like a gorilla unless your a midget... but like I tell everyone .. if you understand what your buying and how fast it will go then you will love the grom .. but if you go into it thinking you can turn it into a fast bike, don't buy it it will never be a fast bike.. but it will always be a fun bike to ride good luck with getting your red Grom .. everyone knows the red is faster then the black anyway

I'm 6' and was 255 when I got the bike this summer... I put on my winter coat and now run about 265. I love my Grom, I ride it all over the place. I haven't even ridden my 1100 more than maybe 2 times since August. I get more attention on this silly little bike than I do on any other bike (unless I'm dressed like Elvis on one of my Z50s :big smile:). I literally can't go to the store or grab gas without someone asking about it or giving me a thumbs up... or getting a chuckle over my big butt on the Grom. I'm sure I look like the Grape Ape, but it sure is fun.

I was 225 lbs and now 212 lbs and going down in wt till I hit 195 lbs. I'm a body builder and have entered many contest in my local area and western USA and Hawaii and won my weight class when I diet down to 176 lbs.

I don't see the Grom is being a gorilla type MC and people making fun of the size of me and the bike. I could care less of what people think or say because in the real world you can not satisfy everyone or make everyone happy.

I use to be hard core Harley rider also and been around a few clubs and group and know that image is a big thing with these guys and gals, been there and done that.

The thing you need to understand is the Grom is made for FUN rides, GAS-COMMUTER saver "100-135mpg" is a plus in my book.
EZ to handle, EZ to park and hide, EZ to clean, EZ to load on a truck or trailer, EZ to maintain, EZ on the insurance, EZ on the total cost to buy one unless you can get a great deal on a 600cc Suzuki/Honda/Kawasaki like I did on my 1999 ZX6-R for $1,800.

I have two Harleys 92 Fatboy, 94 Heritage, two sports bike 99 Hayabusa, 99 Kawi ZX6-R, one 1971 Honda SL-125 and from all those motorcycles I ride the GROM EVERYDAY.

Slap on a good set of tires, luggage rack, a couple of bungee cords/net, and a good cable/chain lock unit for security locking your Grom to a pole and you are good to go.

There is a lot of new 250-300cc motorcycles coming out in 2014-2015 for my pick of the best I would go with the Kawasaki 300

The grom is a toy for most of us and if you need to ride further and more freeways then go with a big bike
Go ahead and get it. Our staff is from 150 to about 240lb and all have a hoot on the Project Grom. Yeah when our 240lb gym rat gets to ride the Grom, it's a bit underspruing, but still rideable.

You def, will want to get some stiffer fork springs once you get used to riding your Grom.

Keep us posted and ride safe.

.
You should get one
Ok I will. I have deposits down.
And my brother has a 13 zuma 50f he has

All the ladies will be jealous of my grom hog!!!!

Here's my reasoning for getting the Honda Grom over a CBR250R,

The CBR250R is a great 1st bike but you will grow out of it quick and you have to sell it too soon down the road.

The Grom isn't fast but you will do lots of stupid things on it and learn from it with out hurting your budget too much. Modding it will make it a bit faster, keep you entertained and don't forget bore and big bore kits. The big difference between the 2 bikes, you won't need to sell the Grom ever, you will just buy an other bike to add to your garage ;)

A fun toy never gets boring, anything that is known as a "beginner" equipment gets boring fast
That's a good point. And I also already have a 2008 yamaha tw200 if I ever need to go 65mph lol. Or in the woods. I see people taking groms off road and it kind of makes me wonder why?

It's classified as a "sport bike" on the honda site. Can't wait to get my hands on one haha

I hate selling stuff also, buy once and run it to the ground lol

Lol I'm the same way. I refuse to deal with people from Craigslist or anything like that. I'm currently looking to get rid of my 05 kfx400 so I think I'm gonna go trade it in at a dealer for a nice shiney new YZ250!

I see lots of peeps with their old bikes in the garage, it's like a museum with some dust.
Get them both the honda 250 is going to be a 300 now but the grom is the most fun I recently purchased the fz 09 now that is a real fun ride:)

I want an FZ-09 so bad... Any complaints about it? I heard its a bit herky-jerky on the throttle in some of the 'modes'

I heard that complaint a lot from the moto rags, but when I rode my buddy's I didn't think it was that much of a problem. Even in the sharpest A mode, I didn't find it unmanageable and got used to it pretty quick. There's already a company that reflashes the ECUs to soften the response and remove the 200kph limiter.
