Ice Studding

So a couple years ago I studded my stunt tires with bolts and lock nuts and rode the hell out of the F4i on the ice. Wheelies were fun but just the drifting and running wide open on a frozen lake was exhilarating. I wanted to fully dump the stock VEE but I'm going to stud these little guys out too!

Hopefully have some cool footage sometime this winter for everyone's viewing pleasure but I have to build 'em first. Here are some pics of what I did with the big bike tires. I ended up putting more studs in after these pictures but the season ended.

I guess tubes required.
close up pics of studs and any clearance issues?
Bet this will be a cool video.
No tubes required. I used 1/4 x 20 x 1.5" bolts, washers, and lock nuts.

Sequence
1. buy all the shit
2. drill out 3/16" holes variously throughout tire (I did 300 rear and 180 front)
3. from the inside of the tire put a washer on the bolt and push through, it's really tough
4. put washer on bolt on the outside then lock nut
5. suck the nut on TIGHT so the rubber starts to bulge
6. remount and fill with air

I let the tires sit under only the weight of the bike for a day and I lost about 2lbs so I used the green tire slime and sealed it up. The tires held air for 3 months and lots of ice/frozen field riding. I was worried about clearance on the front fender but the bolts cleared about 1/4" once mounted. My buddy did the exact same setup on his 636 and he used a grinder to point each bolt end so they basically mimic'd Kold Kutters.

You drilled 300 holes in the rear tire?! Do you have pictures of that? The picture above shows something like 50-60 studs on the side facing the camera (total around 120 +/- a few), I would love to see what the completed 300 looked like!

Not on my new computer. All my photos and videos of awesome younger times are on my HP, I can try to pull them off (with geeksquad help) but we'll see.
No worries, man! I just had this image in my head of a spinning wheel-o-death and wanted to see how close I was to the real thing. It's sick either way. Thanks for sharing.
I've seen people run regular ice studs all over the tires and run them on the ice. I wouldn't mind trying that with a grom tire. The guys ive seen do it run the green slime with the rubber in it. Ive studded plenty of my dirt tires and they grip great but some in a street tire i think would be fun.
badass! im also from Washington (Enumclaw), if your from seattle where do you get to ride on ice like this?
