Here in NJ I go 80 mph on the NJTPK all the time. Thats prolly close to the average speed. Posted 65.

I also have a boulder in my garage... It only goes 0 mph but when I get this thing going down hill, boy does it really move... I got it up to the high teens! 18 mph to be exact, and that's an INDICATED 18 mph!!!

I don't know what my top speed is cause I haven't tried to max it yet. Having too much fun just breaking it in.

Maybe you just need to get enough miles on your bike to break it in? I've got 80 miles on mine and performance is still getting better as i continue to ride. (I think.) I stop riding aggressively or hold back if it starts to smell - I hope that's normal. :/ Never had a new bike before. First ride smelled BAD...
