Here's a question for you guys and gals.

Some friends of ours made their annual fall trip to Myrtle Beach and were talking about how many folks were stopping at the state line and taking off their helmets to ride on down to the beach.

Brought up a good discussion that, if your state didn't have a helmet law, how many would still wear your helmet?

Not at all ? Just out of town with speed limits over 25 mph ???

If you were riding down the strip with your helmet on and no one else was wearing one, would you feel like a dork ?

We know what the safe and logical answer is, but it is America, so what would you guys actually do ??

I never used to wear one. I witnessed some bad accidents. Now I never leave home without one. As Grom76 said, if you have a good helmet you don't even notice it's there. I spent some coin on a good Icon helmet and love it. Keeps down fatigue on long trips with the bigger bikes at constant highway speeds also. Not to mention the Bluetooth com devices.

It has been a decade since the mandatory helmet law was changed here in Pa. Riders in my state now have their choice as to whether or not they wear a helmet while riding their motorcycles. I still cannot get used to the sight of dudes riding on the streets and highways without a helmet, nor can I understand what the hell they must be thinking. To each his own, I guess. As for me personally, I never leave my back yard without one, whether it be offroad or street riding.

No helmet law here in Hawaii, but I see everyone including myself wearing a skull shell.
Except the occasional 50cc scooter rider you see putting along in the bike lane.(still sketchy as shit).

Always even if I'm going for a 2 min ride down the street. Last year my wife's cousin had an an accident on a quad and was only going maybe 15mph. He was in a coma for 3 months and they had to take a section of his skull out to allow his brain to swell. We thought he was going to die or have serious brain damage. Luckily he recovered, but has a permanent plate in his head. Personally I have no respect for those who choose to ride without them because it's uncool. How cool will it be when you are drooling on yourself and being a burden on your family because you have brain damage. I have been riding on and off road since I was about 6 and consider myself a petty experienced rider, but no matter how good you think you are it could happen to any of us in the blink of an eye so please, protect yourself. When someone gets in a fatal accident it adds to the statistics and many deaths could be prevented.

Same as lots of people here, i would never leave without one.. a good friend of mine had a big crash with an open helmet and that was already horrible, 20 times into surgery.. 1 street away or hours of riding, i always wair a full face helmet.. dont make a stupid and lazy mistake that can destroy not only your but also your families lifes..

To be honest, I don't need an accident to realise I need a helmet. Il wear one even running 5minutes to the shop at 10mph.
(One because it's a legal requirement here. Two because I have grown to like my face the way it is.)

All it takes is one driver to be using their phone, or still a little drunk from the night before. Not worth the risk

Always. I don't want to bang and scrape my head/face down the pavement or into an object if something goes south.
