Hard Racing 2017 Grom SF Everything Thread What crosses over what doesn't & much more

Well she finally arrived today.

And we will be doing our best to confirm what parts cross over from the '13-'15 Grom and what doesn't.

What "can be made to fit" and what can't

New Parts SPECIFIC for the Grom SF

And of course, build project, and install videos, reviews and more.

Stay tuned.

For Reference.

They are pretty much the same weight.

stock to stock does it make more power?

Also, pull the injector on the new one, is it different than the old one as far as hole pattern etc. (part numbers are different between 1st gen and 2nd gen grom, as is part numbers for TB and ECU)
Aw man, just when I got my bike like I like it. Thanks Obama.

I am going to quote myself, this was from cross referencing parts diagrams between the OG grom and 2nd gen grom

damper rod is different because it looks like the top cap design is different. There is no bolt that holds the top cap onto the rod because the rod itself looks to be threaded. Interesting. I wonder why they made that change as it offers no difference in functionality.

Actually looking at it, I get it. They use a small nut on the damper rod threads at the top for for the 2017, this allows one to easily assemble / dissassemble the top cap assembly, as with the original grom forks you had no way to stop the damper rod from spinning when you were tightening the bolt that held the top cap to the rod. The new design simply locks it in place with a the lil lock nut.

That sucks for the people.... my easy fork mod will not work with that setup!

Also interestingly enough comparing part numbers.....

Same part numbers

  • main cold start solenoid
  • special o ring that goes between the TB and mainfold
  • injector cap
  • stator
  • Whole airbox assembly including air cleaner
  • Whole cam drive assembly (tensioner arm, push rod / all spinning components)
  • Whole cam n valves
  • Whole clutch / oil spinner assembly
  • Whole crankcase assembly
  • Piston
  • Intake Manifold
  • Entire cylinder head assembly outside of 02 sensor
  • Oil Pump
  • Left and right crankcase covers
  • Transmission

Different part numbers
  • Throttle body (likely due to different cold start pluger and idle air screw)
  • Injector
  • Fuel Line
  • Cold start plunger
  • Idle air screw
  • flywheel
  • Crankshaft
  • Oxygen sensor
  • ECU

Looks like 99% of the mechanics of the motor are the same. But the extra power on the dyno's we are seeing here n there are likely due to injector 02 and ecu differences.

Will be interesting to see once people get their hands on em what the differences are!

Clarification.

Measuring the rear shocks....... they are the same exact length between the Grom SF and "OG"

And the Ohlins shock fits in there just fine.

Thanks for posting this. The new GROM or SF model has a large collector box between the header and end can which was more likely changed to make the bike compliant with EURO 4 LEGISLATION. It also seems likely that the ECU had to be re-done for compliance and it surprises me that the new model could show any performance hike (however slight) over the previous if left stock.
