I am very close to getting a Grom. My purpose is for commuting 1st, fun 2nd. I currently drive a Chevy 1500 truck that gets about 17 mpg and I have to commute about 23 miles a day. Considering the Grom gets around 100 mpg, the amount of gas I save each month will basically pay for the insurance and payment of the Grom itself. Hence, a paid for bike and once the bike itself is paid off, pure savings until the bike no longer runs. (Hopefully that is at least 10 years.)

Do any of you current Grom owners want to go over the financial costs of owning, riding, commuting, insuring, registering, maintaining, purchasing and all other financial related costs of this bike? If you bought it for any of the above reasons as well, what went into your decision? How is it working out so far? What type of MPG are you ACTUALLY getting everyday?

I bought mine for the same reason. 24 mile commute one way, truck gets 21mpg I'd save 250 a month on gas alone before taking out insurance on the Grom. Paid cash for the Grom so can't factor in the payments. Started riding today but I will update you on how it is working out for me.

2500$ cash down
87.53$ monthly payments
Plates are 60$ a year
Full coverage with American family was 350/yr ( I'm young, first bike, speeding tickets in my old bonneville)
110ish mpg so 3.xx$ every 2 weeks?
Helmet /jacket/ other gear was about 600$

Do all my own maintenance so idk about tthat.

Hope that gives you an idea

Payment is 100$ a month, no insurance (yet, quoted like $40/mo for a stand alone policy), roughly 40mile commute, I ride wot pretty much the whole time and back when I payed attention I would get a realistic 90-95 miles to a gallon which is perfectly fine with me

As far as maintenance cost it's just oil and chain lube from what it seems, maybe the occasional right case seal when cleaning the oil spinner and screen, Honda 10w30 at my dealer is less than $6qt so even if you changed that once a month you're spending just over $70 a year on oil... That's 1 tank of gas in your truck haha

Same reason

2008 Tundra was getting 17-25mpg and costing me about $50 per week on gas

1999 Hayabusa MC was getting 29-45 mpg and costing me about $12 per week on gas, bigger bike equals, bigger cost on tires, oil and other maintenance, heavier motorcycle to move around and splitting lanes

Honda Grom $3,900 OTD, insurance very cheap, driving same distance as I did with my Tundra and my Hayabusa motorcycle plus trips to the gym, Costco or any major store.
Installed luggage rack so I can strap down my grocery and such and replaced Grom seat with a Corbin custom seat.
GAS fill up about every 9 days driving the same miles as above and paying about $4.10 per fill up going 98mpg.

I ride, commute on the GROM everyday now, Rain or Shine, I don't give a shit what people say about how small the Grom is and it is a KIDS motorcycle etc I could give a RATS ASS what people think or say. I can split lanes in Calif with no problem, You'll have the jerk Teens with their RICE cars that want to Race you or the Soccer mom or teen chick drivers who is constantly looking or talking on their cellphone and not paying attention and might run you over so word of advice.

Mount a action camera on your helmet and don't leave home without it, it is your VIDEO WITNESS in case shit hits the fan on the roadway. Carry extra battery for the camera and have a bigger memory card also, 32-64 gig will last you a long time.

I am hoping that since I will never be riding in multiple lane highways or roads that I will have less of a chance with idiots not seeing me and merging into where I am. However, you can never discount how dumb some people are.
It is also nice to see that you guys are actually getting 90+ mpg. I assume if I drive it normal I would get 100 (I am only 140 lbs) but it will be hard to resist gunning it a lot I am sure. What do you use to keep the rain out? Just waterproof motorcyle gear? Or do some people get like a plastic raincoat coverall?

Now today they are saying that it would be like $3895 otd and $80 a month for 60 months which comes to $4800 total lol. Guess I may wait for a different dealer to get one.

I have an otd price of $3895. 6.9% apr at 60 months means payments of $77.11. I told them i wont go past 48 months so i am waiting to see how that changes for the shorter term. This deal includes a $150 credit towards gear. What do you guys think of the deal?

I think one of the forum members posted the apr vs credit scores somewhere.. 6.9% doesn't sound like it would be the best rate they offer but I'm not real sure maybe one of the folks here that work at honda would have better numbers..

Official numbers: out the door price of $3895.00 6.9% apr. 48 payments of $93.25 for a total cost including interest and a helmet and gloves of $4,476.00. Anyone else here have similar payments/numbers etc? Is this a good deal? Average deal? Considering insurance costs around $30 a month i will have a cost of about $125 a month to own this bike. Maintenance and other expenses aside. I should save between $100-150 a month in gas vs my truck. Decision time...

Edit: can't seem to find my terms paperwork, but 4 years is a long time to make payments in a bike.

True. But when you are cash poor and need a way to work and back, this bike is a great way to save money doing that vs my truck. It may be financed awhile but as long as it lasts more than 4 years, it pays for itself and saves me a lot of money over that time.

Not judging at all, I'd say go for it if you can make the payments! You can always pay it off early

Right now 4.99% is the lowest rate, but going longer term will change that. I think it's 24-36 4.99 36-48 5.99 and 48-60 6.99. Depending on your riding your MPG may vary, I would use the lowest reported MPG for calculations. You can check my mileage in my signature. That's with over 3,000 miles on the clock.

83.7 is lower than almost all of the other reviews I have seen. I also will only be going on 45 mph streets and around town so I wont really be gunning it all the time. Plus I only weigh 145. I think I can get it around 100 mpg. I also intend to try to pay it off early whenever I make extra money.
