So this morning I went to go for a nice morning ride... it was a cold morning (maybe 55 degrees). I started the bike up and was confused why it was idling at 5500:shocked: rpms in neutral.

I took her for a quick spin around the block and when I came back the idle seemed more normal. So I figured it just needed to warm up.

When I got back from work though, it was 70 degrees and on startup it was doing the same thing. I tried to let it "warm up" but if anything it was creeping up to 6000 rpms. Well... I'm mechanically challenged so I broke out google and the diagnose was I should try adjusting the "idle screw". It took me 15 minutes to find the damn thing and it did work.

After tightening the idle screw all the way in, the engine will now idle at about 3200 rpms. I still feel this is a bit high, especially considering I can not tighten the idle screw anymore.

Any ideas on what could be going on? I am at 180 miles and did an oil change at 140. Oil level still looks good.

check the idle air port/screw and then check you throttle freeplay, may want to check the air cleaner element also. if none of those work take it to the dealer and let them figure it out. the manual also says to look to see if there is an intake air leak or a top-end problem.

but my guess is that is a throttle freeplay problem.

Spec is 1400+\- 100. Mine was at 1400 when I picked it up. As it broke in idle creeped up to 1800. I adjusted it back down to 1400.

@fashionrider712 on the left hand side of the bike ( clutch side of the bike) there is a screw that looks like you could use a normal screw driver to adjust. Additionally it has a spring sitting between itself and the bike. Kind of looks like this guy http://penforhire.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/2298-idle-adjust-o-ring.jpg

In order to see it I need to lay down on my hip and kind of look up at the bottom of the gastank. I'll try to take a pic

I rode my grom the other day, and after coming to a complete stop it started to idle at around 3200(never happened before). I revved it a couple times at the stop light, but it still was hoovering around 3200. After riding for about 5-10mins to my next stop light, the idle dropped down to 1500-1800(normal). I checked for any air leaks when I got home. but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. My guess is that its something to do with an electrical issue. Maybe the cold start was triggered some how. This is the first time that it has happened. Groms at almost 5000 miles.
