I had been planning to upgrade my stock fork with Race Tech valves and springs on my new Grom. But after getting hit last week, I now have damage on one of the fork tubes and I think it is going to have to be replaced. Rather than spend all that money on another expensive OEM crap part that still needs upgrade ($250+ just for an OEM fork per side, $500 for valves and springs), I'm thinking about having some triple clamps CNC'ed (unless someone makes a suitable set for the Grom already) and buying some other used fork on eBay, maybe a take-off from a stock sport bike, or maybe some type of hi-perf aftermarket fork if I can possibly match the stock length and travel.

Couple of questions:

Who does custom triple clamps for a Grom?

What are some good replacement options for the fork if I want to keep the travel and geometry as close to stock as possible?

thanks

great questions, ive been looking for full fork replacements, best thing on the market right now are the RRGS forks and you will have to buy new custom triples/ or triple inserts from composimo to run them.

not 2 mention the aftermarket forks MAY require diff brake setup
That's a good point. Many of the good sport bike front ends are set up for bigger brakes and/or dual side. Not something that couldn't be addressed, but again a big knock on feasibility.

And I really don't mind spending a little more money sum total if I can get a better handling bike out of it. I guess my target budget is still going to be around $250 for a new OEM fork tube, plus the $500 race tech upgrade = $750. So any alternative setup would need to be ~$1000 total or less to even be considered, and then would need to be worth the extra $$$ over OEM w/ Race Tech internals.

RRGS is a worse option than stock. 1 they are cheap Taiwanese parts. 2 they're made for a smaller scooter. 3 the ride will be shitty. RRGS is only a good option for the ruckus because it's the best out of the Chinese shocks.

You could always buy a set of used GSXR750 forks, rotors, and calipers. ALLBALLS sells bearings that will pretty much fit any setup you need it to. The Grom is pretty new so you would probably have to call them. You would also obviously need new triple clamps made and have the forks lowered. Also would need bushing machined to use the stock or aftermarket wheel axle that fits the Grom wheel. Check ebay, there is Suzuki for setups for days.

Alright, saw a little of what's cooking on mnnthbx and that looks like just what I have in mind. However, I see they're still drawing things up so I assume it may be a while to production? I'm laid up for at least a month or two with the damned foot and all, but was hoping to have the bike 100% healthy before I am if at all possible. Swapping forks or even front ends seems like a lotta work to go through to still probably still spend several hundred dollars all said and done since there aren't any other good OEM candidates that don't require modification. I'll wait it out for a bit I suppose. Thanks all for the suggestions so far.

I have guys flying in from Michigan and Illinois Tuesday to collaborate on just this project. We have been machining custom fork lugs and triples for a week. In a matter of weeks, I'll have WORLD CLASS, USA made, FULLY adjustable fronts end kits. No imported scooter pieces. They will not be cheap. There's simply no way to do this type thing on a budget. For those that want real suspension, it will be awesome however....

Sounds like it should be a good solution. I paid $1600 for a set of zokes on my pitbike so I know these things can be pricy. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.
