First Mods?

So far, it seems like everyone is pretty much in agreement that the rear fender has to go. Besides that, what other quick mods are others planning on? Maybe not what you're going for in the long run, just the first few things on the list after you've gone for the first few rides.

My very first mods will be adding mileage and changing the oil.

Remove fender, new mirrors, and probably a taller handlebar setup. Does anyone know what size handlebars I need to be looking for? I want a protaper bar without the crossbar so it will be very similar to my dirt bike. Will I have problems of them being to wide and cables and such not being long enough?
Tidy tail then probably more edgy mirrors. A lot of people already bought new tires as well. Word is the stock ones are scary slick in the wet.

You shoukd be able to run any protaper without the cross member if I remember correctly and you should be able to cut them to width also.

I got tidy tail, exhaust, and micro blinkers. Still need to find mirrors I like and maybe get some new tires.

OK beyond miles and oil change.

Plan A - I have mirrors and TT and Pro Taper Bars on work bench ready to go. If I stay with these bars I will need an adaptor.

Plan B - If mirrors vibrate too much I have already scoped out a different set that I know will work great. If the TT does not work with the ugly stock blinkers I have a couple of other ideas there too. If I decide not to use the PT bars I will go with a 7/8" bar so that I do not need an adaptor.

I am also going to remove all warning decals and the strap on the seat.

I am going to go to HF and pick up a few tools that will fit in the factory under seat bag and give the the ability do more than just change the spark plug on the road.

I will probably go with Michelin Pure Sport tires.

Those are my initial plans.

Hm someone on here ran protaper bars with no adapters or additional hardware. He said hebjust had to redrill a hole or 2 for the controls.

There are two sizes for pro tapers and all non harley/cruiser handle bars. Stock on the grom will be 7/8th of an inch. Just like all oems except ktm and some quads. All 7/8" bars will have a cross bar. The other size and what most people simply call a pro taper is actually 1 1/8th inch at the clamps and tapers to 7/8th for the controls. Every bike has 7/8th inch controls, except harley and some cruisers. So if you want a bar without a crossbar you will need to buy a 1 1/8th bar plus new clamps, or a 7/8th bar and removed the crossbar but also weaken the bar and increase vibration.
first mod.. miles.. over to Composimo's shop and getting a tidytail and remove the ugly fender.. then adjust the handlebars some.. then ride more.. but later change handlebars.. add some protection sliders or something.. then later composimo extension.. change up some stuff here and there.. but again fav mod = miles.. i want to ride the BRP as far as i can.. have lunch.. go back home.. muhahah :)

I got to drive the BRP in the Fall one year (in a Toyota Corolla.) Would love to come out there this fall and take the Grom!
For those that have mirrors picked out, which one are you going with?

I have some koso knock off mirrors. They seem pretty good. I tried them out on my ruck and so far so good.

I definitely plan on running the thicker bar. I would just need this adapter right? Pro Taper Universal Bar Mount Kit - Dirt Bike Motocross - Motorcycle Superstore
If the grom is a solid bar mount, yes. Idk though. Most honda mx bikes are rubber mounted. The mounts you show, you take off the top half of the stock clamps and the solid mounts sit on top of the stock bottom half. A rubber mount replaces the whole clamp and has a single bolt out the bottom. Not sure if the groms are solid mount or rubber mount. A quick google search didnt return anything

Count me in for that ride. Does this include the Virginia Skyline Drive also? Now that would be epic?

Ok, I saw the rubber mount adapter as well. I hope it is rubber mounted. We'll find out soon!
