First, fun as Hell, very light motorcyle

Power, who cares, very nimble, I was doing crap worst than any Russian/Asian/UK lane splitting. I did shit I would not do on my Hayabusa like splitting lanes on a left hand turn.

Dam thing is lots of fun.

Yes the 170cc kit would be nice

This is my first real ride on the Grom with 3 miles on the odm.

The clutch lever, free play sucks
The seat "stock" is hard as a brick, well almost.

I could only get 55-57 and once 60 mph with my 212 lbs frame plus riding gear/helmet/etc.

Shocks suck, both front and rear.

missed the blinker once and hit the HORN, not good honking at guys unless you live in San Francisco

FUN Factor, 5 STAR
SEAT Zero STAR
Handling even with stock tires 4 STARS
Brakes 4 STAR, surprising since I use mostly my front brakes
Gas mileage 5 STAR

What the HELL LOOKS from cagers, teenagers, Kids, etc 5 STAR

JERK CAGE drivers that wants to beat a motorcycle light to light 5 STAR because when you can split lanes you always win in California until someone/CAGER changes lane into you.

Would I buy it again, HELL YES, in fact I bought a second one that is coming into Berkeley Calif end of this month or next month, that is the one that will have all the MODS. This way I can compare a stock GROM with one Heavily modified.

Oh by the way the HANDLE BAR HEIGHT and FEEL is 5 STAR, very surprising
The mirrors sort of suck, wide shoulders but I will do the cheap mod by heating the mirror bar and bending it a little.

RIDE SAFE ALL

My grom would barely top 50 until it started to break in, and I'm only about 160 geared up. After 100 miles or so, I was nudging 60, and after the airbox mod and an exhaust, I can get 63-64 or so with notably better acceleration.

I really don't get all the criticism of the suspension. It's a $3000 commuter bike on 12" wheels that maxes out at 60 and people seem to expect track-grade components.

The horn/blinker reversal is kind of an annoying feature, especially since every bike made since the 70's has them the other way around, it's kind of a tough habit to break.

well I must have gotten a good one if I can hit 55-60mph on is maiden voyage/ride with zero mods and I wt 212 lbs bare and about 220 fully geared. I guess i'm blessed.

dont think about it that way, think about it when compared to other bikes you can purchase for around $3k, FZ1, FZ6, FZ8, SV 650, Ninja 650, etc etc etc

its painful to see everyone on the forum actually thinks the grom is worth $3k+, imo its only worth $2k USD tops brand new (which is the price when you convert from the MSRP Thai currency to USD)

i have a way diff agenda for owning my grom, its not "the bike" for me, its just a toy mini bike that im teaching my gf how to ride on. I treat it that way, and dont expect more or less out of it

careful, i have noticed big lifted trucks dont seem to notice me as often as they should

Same old broken record. Your agenda seems to be shitting on the Grom every chance you get. And poor grammar. And if you think it's such a poor allocation of $3k, why did you buy one? And why are you constantly on a Grom forum? Still waiting for you to buy three (3) Chi-GROMs for $3k and prove us all wrong.

Cisco: glad to see you finally got your daughter a Grom and got to take it for a spin. Your review was honest and spot on.

The lowest MSRP of those bikes is $7,499 for the Ninja 650. The grom MSRP is $3,199 now. Comparing new vs used is apples to oranges.

And while I am sorry it is painful to you how we're valuing and enjoying our groms since you obviously aren't, I won't stop :)

lol.. i hit that horn too trying to signal a left turn.. scared the shit out of the lady in front of me.. muhahaa.. it was funny she was going right.. later she parked beside me at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway and came over to see what the grom was.. was hilarious cause i didnt know if she thought i was beeping at her or what haha.. but i agree.. stock mirrors sux balls.. i couldnt see past my shoulders either.. easy remedy.. got new bars and bar end mirrors.. done.. :)

great comparison.. especially the difference in motorcycles but the fun factor remained :)

the grom is a toy bike, being used as a trainer set of wheels, i would have gladly bought a knockoff for $1000 if they were stateside, because for MY personal agenda - its the bike im going to teach my gf how to ride on.

not the bike where i think ppl should be mislead to think its OK to go on the freeway
not the bike where ppl seem to say the OEM tires are the worst thing on earth, and you must drastically change your riding style if you run through a sprinkler run off or if the road conditions are far from great
not the bike i think where people should do long distance touring on

and why do you think i am shitting on the grom? I am not, im very pleased with it and HAPPY with my purchase, i just dont agree or value that it is worth $3k usd+ when they sell them for $2k usd overseas, and I dont understand why people would buy a grom as their ONLY bike - when the Grom aint worth $3k (in the bike world)

it seems like you dont understand my rants, and clearly think im here to poop on the grom, im just another human that has been riding motorcycles for a bit - prolly over 100k street miles, 2x dozen + trackdays, and almost bought/sold 10x+ bikes, and my personal opinion when comparing the grom to the REAL motorcycle market, its not worth $3k.

i still bought the grom, knowingly it has budget suspension, budget transmission, the really only thing it got going for it is the enkei forged rims/lcd tacho and efi, everything else is so basic, but im not expecting all these crazy things out of it as well.

also the grom is not my only bike, tbh your missing the real open road experience if the grom is your only bike, you can never experience freedom like on a real bike because of the limited 9hp and the horrible suspension, the thrill/enjoyment of riding the bike is ruined by the horrible chassis chatter through the suspension. With the grom you are and will always be limited to what the car is going to do in front of you, with a real motorcycle the car is not a problem due to horsepower/chassis/tire size.

If I want to go really slow and piss off a lot of neighborhood with my LOUD pipes, unplugged, I have ridden those HD's to the River Run in Nevada-Arizona border by myself no one riding with me from San Jose to Arizona, Talk about sore butt

You couldn't even ship a Grom here from Thailand for $3k.

You should have just bough an SSR mini bike.

I think we all understand bikes. Different bikes for different purposes. The GROM isn't for running from cops at 200mph. You're ragging on the price. You don't seem to understand what things cost in 2014. If you look at the GROM and don't see $3k, why did you buy the thing? I look at the little GROM and smile my ass off that it's ONLY $3k. Don't compare a brand new bike to a used bike from another class. Apples to oranges. Stop being butt hurt on the price. I literally have bicycles that cost more than the GROM, so for me, the little Honda is a great value-- especially considering the smile and laugh factor. It gets more looks than a 911 Turbo. You meet the nicest people on a Honda. They don't have a saying for people that ride Chinese knock offs. Oh yeah they do.

Cisco: you're a badass dude. I dig your style! Navy moustache. Arms like 120mm cannons. And smiling your ass off! That's good people, right there. Roger that!
