I will be installing a 12V socket up front this weekend for my battery tender use as well. I have a different plan in mind, one that will not put the socket/plug in front of the key or display. I'll post up a link to mine when completed if the OP does not mind.

It's not that bad reaching for keys but will try mounting it just below the gps, see how it will work. Just like the looks of being centrally located and don't want to clutter the left handle bar
