Trying to balance my new Gold Grom rims and my Michelin rear tire 140/70-12 and the amount of stick on wt I had to use was 4x 1/4 oz, I think that is too much wt. Are other Grom riders that do their own tire balance using the same stock rim and tire like my setup what wt you put on the rim?

Grom really doesnt need a wheel balance, i would not worry to much about wheel balance.. i have been running stock and power pure tires without balance without issues and its butter smooth at 65+
Thank you, that is what I thought with such small tires.
Just got me thinking when I found the heavy side of the tire by taping it and the rim as a marking starting point and no matter where I moved the tire on the rim the same heavy portion of the tire would be show on the bottom of the balance tester.

Will depend on the tire. Michelin doesn't use balance points due to their manufacturing process of their radial tires. But if you run a heavier/unbalanced tire you may need to add weight. I have .5 oz on my rear and .25 on the front. Personally id rather balance them out, but to each their own.

I've never had a tire/rim combination this small to balance, but 1oz of weight on the normal sportbike tires I balance really isn't that much. I only unseat the bead and try to move the tire if it's over 1.5oz. My 2 cents.
Just for test purpose I mounted the Michelin Pure on my Grom gold rims but I did not set the bead in yet just wanted to see where the heavy spot on the tire was and when I did the static balance test I marked the heavy side with tape and I also marked the rim as a baseline starting point. I then moved the tire 45% and the same heavy side with the tape marking showed, so I moved the tire another 45% or opposite from where I taped the rim starting point and the tire would settle at the same heavy spot. I did it on both front/rear tire/rim and both showed the same results.

I'll mount the tires/rim on the Grom with no balance and if I see any changes in handling I will remove them and take it to a shop and have both tires/rims spin balanced.
