I was planning on adding one of those auto chain lube gadgets. But after taking the chain guard off I can see its not necessary. Three 5mm allens(which are straight off and on) and the guard lifts straight up and off. Never saw one that easy.

But theres more!

With the guard off the entire top of the chain from front to rear sprocket is exposed. Never saw that either! You dont even need a rear wheel stand!

Clean and lube half the chain, roll the bike while you watch the chain, and do the other half. The whole thing should take ten minutes!

Chain lube doesn't go on top of the chain, it goes on the bottom so that when the chain goes round the lube is forced into the chain. Like trying to fly out the back of the bike when the chain is on the back sprocket.

If you put it on top it actually does fly out the back of the bike without going through the chain first.

I use the cheap Walmart spray chain lube on a section...which both cleans and lubes, holding a couple of paper towels (napkins from McDonalds really) underneath the chain so it doesn't get sprayed all over, then I use those same couple of napkins which by this time have oil on them to wipe down the chain well to get off the excess oil and clean the chain and clean the sprocket and move the bike by hand just as described. Being able to do it with only a couple of bike moves makes the job very easy. I did notice there is a lot of chain exposed so that makes this job a piece of cake. My other chains are o-ring and I rotate each roller of the chain as I am wiping it down. I guess you can do that with this kind of chain too. I oil every 300 miles or so. On my Gixxer 1000, I can only move the bike about a foot so it takes a good 20 min. but it is so much safer to do it as you describe, rather than putting the bike on a stand, IMO.

Teflon Multiuse Lubricant, in the blue can is my choice. Drys... well, dry. No mess, good stuff.
Tony, make sure your blue cans say "Dry Wax" as shown in the photo attached. They changed the formula and the plain blue can "Multi Use" is no longer recommended for MC chains. I got schooled over on the Versys forum. Start reading at post #12 here. I checked my blue cans and sure enough, the newer cans did not have the dry wax and did not mention motorcycle chains on the can.

Dupont now makes the Chain Saver in the yellow spray can as well as a small drip bottle for use on MC chains.

I use the Dupont Chain Saver as well since I no longer can find the Dry Wax.
