This concerns the battery. My Grom has been parked for two weeks. I put my trickle charger on it yesterday and in ten minutes the light was green!

Leave the ST1300 sitting for two weeks without a charger on it and the battery would barely start the engine. If it wasnt totally flat! "Mordern" motorcycles have high parasitic battery loads.

Not the Grom!

I had similar results... Took a 2 week road trip and another couple without riding and it started right up. My Yamaha WR250X loses charge after 10 days of sitting. Still have to check the electrical system for parasitic draw.

The max spec for parasitic loss is listed in the service manual as 0.01 mA. If the bike is sucking exactly 0.01 mA a fully charged 3.5 AH battery would last 35,000 hours from a full charge before depletion which is 4 years. In practice it may draw even less.

My Concours14 can sit for 4-6 weeks and starts up effortlessly. Y'all need to run some tests on your bikes to figure out why you have such high parasitic draw when off. The .01mA listed on the Grom is for keeping the clock on time when the bike is off. It must be the same circuit honda uses on all of their bikes since they all have nearly the same draw listed.

I let my beemer sit for 6-8 months and it started up fine with a AGM type battery. I have a lithium battery in my Ape, so technically, I'd have enough power for a lot longer.

Hmm interesting. This 2 week period with the ST13 is for temps in the 20-30s.

The ST13 has mpg meter, temp gauge, and lots of other exotic things so I asume thats where the problem lies...

A month sounds about right for a good battery. My Vespa 300 owner's manual says in order to maintain good seal and battery life you should run the scooter for 10 min. once a month just above idle. That is minimum of course. Since I ride ever day or nearly so, it hasn't ever come up.

I can let my cbr sit all month without starting it and it will fire right up, you may have a issue you should check out. My ruckus has a shorai battery and thats the best battery i think hands down. Never gave me a problem, started my high compression motor no problem and i let it sit a year without touching it and it fired right up too

You all have a lot of crappy batteries. As said, it's not normal for a battery to be dead in a few weeks regardless of ambient temperature. The draw for "memory" on the ECU is extremely small to the point of being negligible. The battery's self-discharge rate is a much bigger factor in the disappearing power, which for a modern new battery, is about 3% of capacity per month. As the battery gets older, or especially after being deeply discharged, this rises and effective capacity diminishes...so it loses power faster, and holds less to start with. This effect "snowballs" quickly. If your bike is too weak to start after a few weeks, do yourself a favor and replace it. Manufacturers often claim a service life of 3-5 years, which I think is fairly conservative. With good maintenance-using a tender in the off season- and a high quality battery, you can do better than that.

Lithium batteries tend to hold their charge better than lead-acid, in fact the lower the temperature, the less power they lose. There's also a pretty significant weight saving. The only question is service life...they haven't really been around long enough for anyone to know.
