Do the brights on these Groms annoy drivers as would the brights of a regular car or truck? I would like to use my brights much more often but obviously do not want to annoy or blind oncoming traffic.

Do you guys lock your Groms in parking lots like with a bike lock to a pole or anything like that? What is the standard procedure for where you park and secure your ride?

I ride my Grom with the High Beam on if I'm riding the a residential street or business park roadway.

I always carry a chain and lock and lock my Grom to a bike stand or pole. I rather slow down a thief than give them the chance to grab my Grom. If I can pick up the Grom with ease imagine what a team of thieves can do with truck/van/tow-truck

brights on during the day for me.

as for a lock, i try to lock to fixed object where possible. if you don't have one, check out the lockstraps. while it's not going to be best lock, but it's very portable and will delay a thief. the theory behind the product, the kevlar will foul a cutter before it can cut the cable.

Curtis, your seat looks pretty dirty... Brights during the day is a good idea. I guess I was worried about blinding a driver with brights at night and having them steer into my path or even brights annoying a car in front of me. Are they that bright?

Also, most racks like the one I use at work and pictured above from Curtis are meant for bikes and on sidewalks. Is it technically illegal for us to put our Groms in these spots? Has anyone gotten any crap from police or anyone for parking on sidewalks or similar places?

The key is to deter as much as possible. Its not 100%, but better than nothing. Chain, rotor lock preferably with audible alarm, lock steering, cover, park/lock in open area versus hiding it in a conceiled area. Think like a thief and do what would deter you the most. Also, mark expensive aftermarket parts, take alot of pics of bike and often. This way you have the most up to date pics to use if reporting stolen.

I believe it is illegal to park on the sidewalk, atleast in NY it is. But what i have seen people do in NYC is they remove there license plate so the cops can't ticket them. I'm not sure if the cops can give a ticket just from the vin number though.

Chally- that seems risky. I assume there is some other law in removing your license plate. I wouldn't want some cop to think it is better to just impound the bike.

Yea now that I think about it, it's mostly the guys delivering food on the scooters that do this in NYC. Maybe someone that's been in NYC longer than I have can chime in on this.

It is illegal to park on sidewalks in Chicago. That said, my office is on private property and scooter parking is posted and allowed. I would not do this in a city owned area, that's a sure ticket. The free parking at my building is what prompted my decision to get the grom. Otherwise I pay over $100 for crappy train / bus service or over $200 for garage parking if I drive my jeep (plus the insane amount for gas). So now my commuting costs will be a gallon of gas a week.

That is about what I would pay a week in gas with the Grom for my commute too... if I can ride it everyday. Hopefully the rain and storms stay away most weeks!

My plan b in bad weather is to go back to train/bus days. I am a new rider and can probably handle light rain, but the high winds on my route along lake Michigan make me a bit nervous. It wasn't that long ago that a guy on a scooter got pushed over a bridged part on this same route going 40 mph. I look forward to be able to commute full time on the grom, so far just two days due to the insane winter we are having. 10 day forecast is still crap.

As for brights...on during the day only. Looking for an alternative light source for more light at night. Parking I can't say I dont live in the city. Lighter not gas in my jeep is $70 a weekish. Grom less then $70 a month and over 1000 miles.

Stick a 55w H4 bulb in the stock headlight. Just fold down the two tiny front facing tabs on the base plate and then direct swap. It makes a big difference. High beam on at all times during the day. Only time I use low is when in traffic at night.

There's HID/LED options out there I was looking at, but honestly the h4 bulb made enough of an improvement I'm satisfied with it. Especially considering a h4 bulb is $5 at wally world and takes literally 2 minutes to change.
