This is a CRF230M. Purchased new (Some are still available new, or shop used. 275 lbs, low low seat, but great ground clearance, 15 hp, 75 mph top speed, 100mpg, simple and solid 2 valve, air-cooled mill. I call it my Super Grom! All the guys at the dealer think so too! Might meet your needs as is - or you can build a Grom up from scratch too! This is Honda's mini super motard and it is a blast to ride!!
The Grom is fantastic, but this is a great alternative if you are looking for something with just a bit more, like a 230cc Grom - yes!!!
We already know that you bought a non-Grom. We also already know that you like it better than a Grom. How do we know this? You told us less than 24-hours ago, remember?
You never even answered my previous question: have you even ridden both bikes? If you haven't ridden both, back to back, you can't even say that your new bike is a "super grom." Also, 230cc and 15 HP is supposed to be impressive? 75 mph top speed? Get real. I've ridden plenty of bikes that can do that in first gear. Unless it does 175 mph stock, I'm just not that impressed. There's plenty of folks on this forum with bikes that have 10 times that HP. They still dig the Grom for what it is, they don't bag on it for what it isn't.
If you are looking for love on your new bike, maybe join a CRF forum? Stop trying to sell me on a bike I wouldn't buy anyway.
Ok, sorry, it looked to me that my first post did not "take" so I tried again. I did check the link you showed and apologize for not responding. As stated it is a CRF230M and I couldn't get a dealer to let me try a Grom, though I promote the Grom when I can!
I see a lot of fun and practicality in small bikes. I saw that this forum appeals to those who enjoy smaller bikes and was kind of proud of my selection I guess, thought it might be a great alternative after reading how many Grom owners keep pushing for " just a bit more", but I recognize that the search for more power is part of the fun too. BTW, my last bike was 140hp so I know why you all enjoy your Groms, as I do my little 230!
Cheers to all in Gromland, alas there is no CRF-M forum. I enjoy your forum nonetheless, but don't want to offend anyone. Hope I provided a bit of insight and will stay in the background. Thanks - SS1
I think the choice of the CRF230FM is a cool bike, yes I would put it in the category of small motorcycles, remember a lot of grom riders came from the ruckus scooter so bottom line is to be happy to ride any motorcycle or two wheel vehicle that puts a smile on your face.
FUN is what we look for in life, there is a few that are trying to make the grom look like a bigger bike by putting more plastic body parts on, bigger engine stuffed under the frame such as a 250cc or 450cc or more. Bottom line is to enjoy life and be happy with what you ride.
For me I came from the world of Hayabusa and I own a 1999 copper/silver and normal commute speed for me was 80-120mph everyday and sometimes a blast up to 220mph corrected 198mph. It was fun than and I got 79,000 plus miles on the busa so now riding the grom is a blast too.
Not bad, not bad at all.
Me thinks the Grom is in a world by it's self.
If you change (any) the wheel base, weight, center of gravity, wheel diameter, or seat height you are talking apples and oranges.
One more thing, how many chicks did you "WOW" with those other bikes?
198mph!! Whew!! That is impressive! I only got up to 143 on my modded Z1000 before I chickened and didn't even hit top gear. But hey, we are both alive and enjoying our "small" bikes. Sorry, no chicks for me. Happily married, haha. I will have to try a Grom when I get a chance and report back if I can.
"Small bikes are tons of fun!! It's all good! Thanks, Fellas!!
