Yuminashi Ecu with Kitaco Light Bore 181

    Hi Everyone,

I have a kitaco light bore with the type two cam and kitaco injector that came with it, having finally decided on going for the Aracer Mini 5 after receiving great advice here.

While saving my pennies.... Yuminashi release the grom ECU.

I understand that the Aracer is a superior controller in may ways, however the yuminashi is very affordable and appears to offer the level of performance and plug and play-ness that will suit my needs. (commuting and cruising around rather than racing or hard core tuning).

Having read the entertaining threads that have discussed how the Yuminashi works and various limitations of the controller, I have learnt that the yuminashi may need to be tuned with various injectors.

I am having trouble finding any info. on the specs of the kitaco injector that came with my kit.

Do you think the Yuminashi is a viable option for my proposed set up? (i have supporting mods etc.)

If so is it likely that as the injector is matched for the 181 it will work with the yuminashi?

If not, what would be the next step up or down from my injector?

Should I order and install the Yuminashi valve springs at the same time? (i wont be above 10K unless I miss a gear).

Although not into the hard core tuning/racing, I do like doing things properly and to a high quality, more for durability and peace of mind.

I'm running the Yuminashi ECU stand alone with no other tuning devices and am totally satisfied. The engine cold starts instantly, idles smoothly, and doesn't die. It runs livelier and is more responsive to throttle input. I can easily keep up with the flow of traffic without needing to wring out the engine. I really like this as it makes the bike very easy to operate.

I use gas mileage logs to let me know how efficiently the engine is running. The fill up while the Yuminashi ECU was learning was 129.8 mpg, and the two subsequent fill ups are 145.9 mpg and 141.1 mpg.

Because the only changes are a long free flowing intake and long free flowing exhaust on a stock bore engine...

...the stock injector is well within its limits to supply fuel. Consider what an ECU does. It signals the injector when and how long to open, and it also signals when the ignition spark occurs. So if you run a larger bore requiring more fuel, an ECU cannot make your injector larger. It can only signal it to stay open longer. So at some point the stock injector has a physical limit of how much fuel it can supply. I believe I could install a larger injector and the Yuminashi ECU would simply shorten the signal and the engine would still run the same.

In fact I just might try that as an experiment and use my gas mileage as an indicator.

I have contacted yuminashi for some more info

Is looking at the number of holes on the kitaco injector telling me much?

It can tell you some. Id say try it, i want to say the kitaco injector is a 10 hole injector which should flow a decent amount and be properly sized for your setup.

FYI, they give you that injector to use with the stock ecu and a kitaco iMap, so the yuminashi should in theory do just fine.

Kitaco injector appears to be a 10 hole.
To be fair I really don’t know what I’m looking for!

looks like its a Keihin 10 hole, quite possibly the same as the Forza 300 / CB1100 injector which flows quite a bit and is often the choice for those running 170+ cc motors. Try it, run it, give the ecu some time to figure out trims, as it will probably run rather rich from the get go.

Pretty sure those are the same, I switched from a Forza 300 injector to a Kitaco one and there was basically no difference in the autotune tables.

Yup, sounds like thats the one that Kitaco uses. Makes sense, a quality, cheap, high flow injector that bolts right in to the stock TB.
