I've seen people ride the track in jeans. Dirt bike gear works too. I rode my first time in a street riding jacket and some dirt bike pants and regular ol shoes. If I went more often, I'd get a full leather suit.
yup, leather (2 pc or 1 pc suit) offers best protection. I DO NOT recommend jeans, nor tennis shoes (or any type of low top shoe). Moto-X gear (w/ armour), IMO, offers minimal protection. Areas where under armour (if equipped) is not protected are subject to road rash and or friction burns. With that said, even the lowest budget leather gear offers better protection. Otherwise, one can find pretty good deals on used, brand name gear, as well. Trust me, it's worth the buy!

First track day of the year is coming fast! 2/11! Anyone coming out? At least 2 of us will be out there. Here's a session of the very last track day last year. My friend Kelly gets a good lap of me at about 440
