Honda's Beloved GROM Returns for 2015 with New Colors

Jan 15, 2015 - 11:42 AM - by NickJ

TORRANCE, Calif. (Jan. 15, 2015) – Honda announced today that its Grom®, the compact motorcycle with a big attitude, will be offered in two additional colors for its second model year in the manufacturer’s lineup. For 2015, Yellow and Pearl White options join the popular Red and Black versions that were available in its successful debut model year, with all variants getting a new graphic treatment on the tank covers.

“We’re very pleased to close out our 2015 model lineup by offering the Grom in additional colors,” said Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “It has been exciting to see customers not only embrace this model, but make it their own, so adding new color options and a bit of flair made perfect sense. This model has spawned Grom-specific forums and clubs, and we look forward to seeing what customers do with the Grom in its second year.”

Since its debut, the phenomenal Grom has been celebrated as a unique, fun, impossible-to-pigeonhole motorcycle, and it shook up the market in a big way by creating its own dedicated scene. A sort of cultural chameleon, the Grom has already captured the imaginations of a diverse coalition of American enthusiasts, with owners finding new and imaginative ways to meet and interact with one another, and to express their personalities through their machines.

Still the only product of its kind on the market, the little Grom returns with all the same full-size motorcycle features, including a 124.9cc fuel-injected engine, an inverted fork, hydraulic disc brakes and a steel frame. The versatile machine has room for a passenger, and its curb weight is just 225 pounds.

· Colors: Yellow, Pearl White, Red, Black

Motorcycle of the Year 2014: Honda Grom

Dec 30, 2014 - 2:17 PM - by DrumsOfGrohl

Sometimes simple is better. That’s the case with Honda’s $2999 Grom 125. But how can a bike that tops out at just over 60 mph and makes less than 10 horsepower rank as MotoUSA’s bike of the year? Two reasons: it’s fun, and anyone with the coordination to pedal a pushbike can probably ride it.

Sporting nothing but the basics, the Grom sources a push-button electric start and fuel-injected air-cooled Single, mated to a slick-shifting four-speed transmission and feathery smooth manual clutch. The little Grom is a better looking version of Honda’s popular CT and ST mini-bikes from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. A halogen head lamp, LED tail light, turn signals, mirrors and a license plate make it street legal.

The Grom’s as easy on the eyes as it is on fuel, delivering a range in excess of 100 miles on a single tank of gas. Acceleration is peppy enough to outpace most cars from traffic lights and a pair of disc brakes provide ample stopping power when those lights change from green to red.

With a wheelbase measuring under four feet and a 225-pound curb weight, the Grom offers the nimbleness of a small scooter, jetting around town with greater agility than more powerful (and expensive) street bikes. Plus it requires minimal room in the garage and is simple to park in even the most crowded cities. It may not be the flashiest, or the fastest, but for pure fun and care-free rides the $2999 Honda Grom is the best value on the market.

2014 Honda Grom Recall

Dec 09, 2014 - 2:29 PM - by NickJ

There is a bracket inside the fuel pump that may swell and cause the fuel pump to not function as is is supposed to. This can lead to hard starting when stationary and also fouling the fuel pump to the point of stall and subsequent hard starts.

According to the defect notice submitted to the NHTSA, “as of October 3, 2014 Honda has received 30 warranty claims and no injuries related to this issue.”

Those Grom models that are subject to this recall were produced from June 12, 2013 through September 24, 2014 and affected Forza models were produced from June 18, 2013 through May 21, 2014. There are 10,076 units potentially affected by the issue.

Owners of affected models will be contacted via mail with a request to take the vehicle to a Honda motorcycle... [Read More]
